Summary: I purchased this radio primarily for AM reception to listen to news and sports talk radio on long walks. There are some terrain challenges for AM radio in my neighborhood. That, and the non-digital tuning of my previous Sony radio caused frustrations. The Sangean was clearly superior in it's ability to lock on the station. Some specific area dependent loss of station quality still exists but I am not sure this can be solved by any portable radio.
Summary: The DT-180 does everything I was expecting. Compact, good reception, clear sound, easy access to all functions, auto shut as well as battery life indicator are great. An illuminated display would have been a nice addition, but I realized that that was not included so no complaint there. On the down side the ear buds fell apart after two weeks. Easy replacement there so not a big problem. The battery life is a little questionable.
Summary: This is just a nice little radio to have around. It is small, great on batteries, and pulls in stations great. It is just one of those products that works well, has nice features, and is made well. It gets lots of use, and is holding up well. Don't hesitate to get one of these.
Summary: picks up stations okay outside but inside a house it has a hard time picking up the same stations. Battery life is good, one AAA will last one week if you use it for 8 hrs a day. I found a Coby MP820 a MP3 player with a FM radio has a far better receiver and is charged USB that lasts over 8hrs. The Coby is far less money than Sangean. Sangean will work okay in the football stands but if you are looking something that works well inside look at something else.
Summary: I had trouble finding a small radio that had both AM and FM. I wanted AM so I could listen to Yankee games on 880AM. My kids were embarrassed to see me using my old Walkman to get the games, and bought me this great little radio. I dropped it after a few months and broke the on/off button, so I immediately ordered this one to replace it because it met my needs perfectly. I use it all the time.
Summary: 5 years ago I started to use the analog version of this, Sangean SR-3 and came to the conclusion that Sangean produces radios better than anybody else. And, I purchased this one. Very well engineered personal radio. Uses only one AAA battery that lasts very long time due to the auto shut off feature. Earphones only, no speaker. Both AM and FM band sensitivities are very high and the stations don't drift. Deep bass boost mode generates earthquake like bass.
