Summary: Bought as Christmas present for other half. He likes it a lot and finds it easy to use but only 3 stars because we had to send 2 radios back before we got one that worked properly - very disappointing for a product from a company as well known as PURE. Also very mean of them to expect you the buy a separate battery pack for use on the move.
Summary: I was disappointed with the quality of the mains lead supplied with this radio. The cable is the thickness of a charger for a mobile phone rather than a normal domestic mains cable. This meant that the cable broke where it met the moulding of the radio socket plug. I complained to Pure as this spoils a radio with a lovely tone; they sent a replacement as it was under a year old, but I felt I had to order the customised Chargepak rechargable battery to preserve the cable...
Summary: When my usual AM radio failed I purchased this as a replacement along with the battery pack as wanted portability. I also own a DAB radio made by Roberts. The Pure Mini can't get the same stations as good as the Roberts, for instance I can pick up Tay AM on the Roberts but the Pure just shows "station not available" when I try to tune it in. Radios are in the same position. Also where my AM radio would play anywhere in the garden I have trouble with this one.
Summary: good value for money. user friendly in terms of settings only real negative are the speakers, not very powerful, need to be nearly on max to hear music over the kitchen extraction fan and the kids talking!
Summary: The basics of this radio - sound, reception, design, display, construction - are all very good, as you might expect from Pure. However it's let down by poor usability, for example: - Many functions require you to press the silver knob on the side. This just pushes your radio onto the floor (as it's so light) unless you hold it with your other hand. So you need 2 hands to operate it. This push button needs a rethink, it's much too awkward.
Summary: The major drawback with this radio is that it only takes a special sort of battery that Pure sell for an extra £20. It doesn't take normal batteries. Very annoying if you were planning to use it that way and it isn't clear until you have purchased and opened up the box!
