Unreliable 'Quality' radio stopped working too soon
21 December 2013
Summary: As other 1 star reviews also state, ours stopped working far sooner than I'd expect for a supposed quality brand, lasting short of 4 years. One day our radio decided not to find any of the pre-set channels so we had to manualy tune each time we switched channels. Then it quickly decided to suddenly make a loud POP noise when playing and detune itself completely before turning itself back on. Within a week it wouldn't tune in, therefore wouldn't turn on at all.
Summary: Unfortunately I have had this radio for just about 2 years. It has completely died on me. I am only awarding one star because of the wooden box looking good. It looks lovely and worked great until just one day that was it! Pure radio have washed their hands of the problem as their software only supports PC users. There is absolutely no support for Mac users.
Summary: I've got the Tempus-1XT (same radio, but mains only). Had it a few years, and it's increasingly unreliable. It loses the time (the clock just stops), and the alarm function packs up (which isn't very clever when you want a radio alarm to wake you up in the mornings), it loses the presets, the display has gone so dim that it's unreadable. Am I just unlucky? No - this is very typical:[...
Summary: I bought my Pure DAB radio in 2010 and up to mid morning of 17 Mar 2013 it was working fine. But then the radio decided that it's software needed to be upgraded and displayed the message "Upgrade (revA)" in it's window. Nothing on the radio now worked. So I looked up the advice on the Pure.com website and had to follow the instructions to connect the radio to my PC, download the latest software and install it.
Summary: We already have a Pure Tempus 1 and wanted another just like it. This appears to be the updated version. However, upon delivery I find that it has had some of the most useful features removed such as multiple alarms and a one touch sleep timer. The buttons on the Tempus 1 were perfect - this has the same arrangement but they work in a totally different way. I cannot fathom why Pure would do this. They've taken a great product and made it rubbish. Very disappointing.
Summary: As a digital radio it works well and the sound is correct. I also purchased it as an alarm clock to wake me up in the morning. I haven't been able to use it reliably. The instructions are confusing and the system too complex. Very frustrating!
Summary: If you like to hear people talking into a pillow then this is the DAB radio for you. It's so muffled it's on a par with the Goodmans GSR80DAB. The whole purpose of digital radio is clarity. This radio has no treble, no tone control. It's just not worth the money. Get a Roberts DAB instead. Then you'll hear a PROPER DAB radio. Chrystal clear high frequencies. 22Khz audio frequencies and no hiss. This is too BOOMING and muffled. Sounds like a radio with a cushion over it.
Excerpt: Very disappointed with this radio. Build quality is poor with the radio not inset to the wooden frame correctly and the sound quality is appalling. I can only liken it to listening to a normal radio with a pillow over the speaker. My old Sony FM radio knocks spots off this radio so back to Amazon it goes. Unfortunately, I was also bought the Chargepak for this radio as a Christmas present and I am unable to return this to John Lewis as more than 28 days have elapsed.
Summary: I am writing this review after owning this radio for just over a year now, after buying from this site. The radio has now broken! Very, very poor value for money as it is quite expensive! One day, it simply spluttered and now it only works on certian days - what a let down. Plus, as a further sign of poor qulaity, the ariel can no longer support its own weight and flops down like a spaniel's ear. It looks great & sounds ok - that's it.
Summary: I bought this radio on the basis of the reviews and my daughter's excellent Pure 'One' DAB radio. It feels well built, the display is gorgeous and the controls are easy to use. The big downside for me was the audio quality. First of all the bass seems overly emphasised and there is no tone control! I did not get crystal clear reception on any channel, lots of evidence of digital noise and highly compressed audio. At higher volumes it was just unpleasant and unbalanced.
