Summary: I was passing a time in Florida and had to stay well prepared for the hurricanes season. With this radio I always received the alerts just in time to prepare myself and family for emergencies.
Summary: I bought this after taking a CERT class (Community Emergency Response Tech) for the weather alarm and SW-radio plus all the other features. It worked great until owning for two years. I hadn't used the crank very much and as other people have said, the knobs are not rugged...the crank broke off. It could have been made better. I'd buy another one especially if they engineered it to be tougher.

Summary: These are visually well designed, very cheaply, terribly constructed devices. The knob on the main selector for all of the functions was wobbly, would break in a few uses [ no doubt when you needed it most in a catastrophe !]. Very sad the stunning visual design/ well thought out architecture of function was placed in the hands of a certain notorious country to produce it as cheaply as humanly possible!!!! Way to go Eton!
Great purchase! It's nice when you can power something with no power source!

Summary: Watched some video reviews of this on youtube before I ordered so I knew this was the one I wanted. You can charge your phone using a USB, has a solar panel, takes AA batteries. Has an led Red flashing light, Led flash light. And the weather stations come in very clear. The hand crank feature is useful and well made. Awesome purchase, very pleased!
Summary: I bought this after seeing a review in Sunset Magazine. I wonder how much testing Sunset did. Within the first 3 months I noticed it wasn't charging well, I decided to bear with it since it seemed to be working otherwise. I eventually contacted customer service within the first year because the charge just wouldn't hold, the rest of the unit was showing wear as well - buttons not working, knobs slipping out of place, very poor quality control.
Summary: love it especially with all the storms and since it is portable its very nice the reason i gave it four stars was because even after i programmed the counties i wanted to come thru it still has other ones come thru which is irritating i contacted the eton company and they said it was the national weather service fault, i have read the directions a million times and still cant get the counties i want to warn me only those counties should come thru and i have this one and...
Summary: I suppose it may work good if there is a real emergency and most RF is down, but it otherwise has poor reception. I have a radio with an antenna broken off that recieves as well. The sound quality is about the same. Otherwise, the construction is reasonably sturdy, and it has the features I wanted in an emergency radio including short wave reception, which is difficult to find these days.
Summary: Found this to be of surprisingly poor quality, especially given the Red Cross affiliation. Would have expected better. Bought one last year for hubby for Christmas, it was broken and none available when returned. Tried a second time this Christmas and knobs didnt function allowing access to multi channel selection.
