Summary: I bought this for long drives and watching movies in the hotel at night. I also take this with me when I go to take my car for service. I saw a person in there waiting patiently watching his dvd's. I sometimes have to wait two to four hours for my car. It is easy to help the time pass between watching a couple of movies and working on my Ipad.
Summary: I purchased this item for my grandchildren. They had an older version with a 7 inch screen for years. When it stopped working they received a few others as gifts which did not last so I did my research, found this one and they love it! It is sturdy, has the 9 inch screen and starts right where you leave off when you turn it off!
Summary: One of my top priorities in finding a portable DVD player was a long battery life. When I saw that this one had 6 hours, and a brand name like Sony, I was sold. Now that I've had a chance to test it, I wish I had known better, which is why I'm writing this review to let others know. I normally do not write reviews, actually this is my first. I used a kitchen timer, counting upwards, to test the battery life. Before testing, I had it fully charged, overnight.
Really enjoying this DVD player, Our Kids LOVE IT!

Summary: Needed something to replace the old one that broke. This one was a bit more expensive than I wanted to go but it's already paid for itself. Volume is LOUD. TWO, yes TWO headphone jacks, fabulous when you have 2 kids. The swivel screen is great, can be turned when the people viewing it are at an angle. It lays completely flat which is great with the holder we bought for it together these 2 items make for a very happy car ride. Worth the extra money.
Summary: We were planning the airplane entertainment for our 2-year-old son during our spring break trip. We were considering buying an iPad, but once you add in all the hardware requirements for 4G and purchase movies on iTunes, you're over $700 for an iPad (and I'm talking about the iPad 2 not 3!) The Sony DVP-FX970 9-inch portable DVD player was less than 20% of the iPad cost.
Summary: I purchased this unit to travel with. I record my own programs on dvd-r discs and watch them in my down time while traveling. This machine does a very poor job of playing those DVDs. Some won't play at all, some constantly skip and freeze and I have yet to play any that play smoothly. I have checked these same discs on a number of other machines and they all play fine everywhere else.
Summary: When working this DVD player is fine- Good battery life, easy to use, good picture quality. Unfortunately the quality is severely lacking. After 8 months it stopped working- everything appears to be fine but it will no longer read any DVDs. Based on other reviewer's comments this seems to be a common issue. The Sony warranty is worthless- only 90 days for parts and labor and the warranty repair estimate is greater than the DVD player cost in the first place.
Summary: I bought this player to replace a dvp-fx810 model that had lasted over three years, but which finally started losing battery life while I was on vacation. I loved the previous model, and had hoped for a similar quality in the new one, especially in light of the hefty $140 price tag. The first thing my husband said when I brought it home was, "Why does it feel so cheap?" He was soo right...
Summary: Best gift in such a long time. We got this for our car, especially for our toddler to be occupied on long trips. Have had this for several months now and is nothing short of a blessing. Plug in the USB with some movies or shows, fire it up and you won't even know that you have a toddler in the car (at least in our case). I love the picture and audio quality on this player. Amazing that it can be loud enough considering how small the speakers are.
Summary: Not only did the unit break after four months, but it's not a very good player to begin with. The picture quality and sound are fine, but the buttons are terribly inconvenient...almost non-functional in terms of ease-of-use.
