Summary: Got two players for my 5 and 4 year olds. Gorgeous looking product BUT significant problem with skipping.... not only on one machine but on BOTH machine. So can't blame one on being a lemon. Then I did some research online and apparently this is a big problem with others as well. Amazon was fantastic in letting me return the machine but WILL NOT buy another sony portable dvd player.
Summary: I love Sony products because they usually never break. So, I paid the premium to get this portable DVD player. After 3 weeks, the LCD screen stopped working. It now flickers, has a line through it and shows incorrect colors (almost like a film negative). I tried everything I could think of to "reset" the screen but nothing worked. It's under warranty so I'm sending it in to be fixed for free. However, I will only get a "refurbished" unit back.
Summary: Bought this DVD player about 6 months ago and loved it. My only gripe initially was that the D Pad type button used as ENTER and Fast Forward/Rewind is so close to another button that brings up the DVD options menu. So many times you end up bringing up the menu when you just wanted to hit ENTER. My real problem is now the video goes black periodically when watching a DVD. The only way to rectify the problem is to turn it off and back on.
Summary: When the player works it delivers good quality images and sound. However the battery life of the product is nowhere near the 6 hours that is promised. I recharged the player for 12 hours, plugged in my headset and put the brightness of the screen to minimum, and according to the manual the battery then should last for about 6 hours. I put this to the test twice on a long flight, and the DVD player stopped playing after 35 minutes already!
