Excerpt: It had in no way struck me to purchase a transportable DVD player. I’ve got a notebook computer that will operate DVDs, and also on prolonged trips I’m generally the driver, therefore I certainly not experienced the requirement for one.
Summary: Bought the item about a year and a half ago. Used it in my car during commute for about 6-8 months. Then it sat idle for another 6-8 months. After sitting unused for this span and now inserting a disk, it mysteriously no longer works. Will not read any DVD. Sony quality is apparently awfully low. I suggest searching around for another brand with greater reliability.
Summary: Purchased to use in the car for long trips. It has been well cared for although used quite often. There is now a loud stuttering noise and the error message "cannot load disc". Have spent close to two hours contacting Sony online via Chat Support, phone call to Customer Service plus phone calls to each Recommended Repair Center. Everyone was quite polite but the message was clear - the unit needs to be sent in for repair and it will cost you.
Summary: I ordered this unit for a teenager's christmas present. it was a refurbished unit but since it was a Sony product, I had no concerns of the quality or performance. The player was wrapped for christmas for more than 30 days. when Christmas arrived and I gave the present to my niece, every movie we had on hand would work for about 20 - 30 minutes into the movie and the then the unit would just freeze. we only had a few movies in the house so we assumed it was the disc.
Summary: As a newly retired guy, I'm out and about all year and always in the car. I refuse to leave my laptop in the car and take a chance on theft or damage, but I also want the freedom to watch a DVD by the lake after my workout, so this unit fits the bill! I can use either headphones or the internal speakers, and the unit has a car charger as well as a wall charger, so I'm always prepared.
Summary: I bought this about a year ago and at first it worked fine. I did not use it much for over six months. When I started to use it to play CD's which I listened to while driving, it frequently locks up totally or stutters for a while repeating the same words. For the price and brand I expected better. Some CD's it will not play at all although they will play on our in house CD player.
Summary: This DVD died after 4 months. We didn't even use it that often it has already died. Sony wants us to pay labor charges to fix it and then what? Will it die again after 4 months when the labor warranty wears off? We should have bought something at Costco.
Summary: Very nice features, but if the product doesn't work, all the nice features are meaningless. It stopped working right after the 90-day warranty expired. Very disappointed, would not recommend it, and will not purchase Sony products in future. It played beautifully the first few times we used it -- and we only used it on long trips in the car. So we had only used this DVD player about 6 times before it stopped working.
Summary: I picked this product for two reasons, 1st: it had two headphone jacks. Both headphone jacks are powerful. You do NOT loss quality when you plug in the second one; which is good. Second, the size was middle ground...not the biggest and not the smallest. The quality is really sharp. I was watching a movie the other day w/ someone and the commented on how crisp the screen was. Lastly, what i noticed is the volume for everyone to hear (w/out jacks) is awesome. Its loud.
Summary: My old portable dvd player, a Haier, I had used mercilessly and constantly, and when it broke after about a year and a half, I decided to treat the new one tenderly. I hardly used this Sony, never dropped it or took it near water or exposed it to dirt, and it broke sooner than the old one. This time when I buy a player I'll shop around more. I was disappointed, because I thought Sony was higher quality.
