Summary: The device works well but is is not made to last. If you use the device on a regular basis you might expect it to last 6 to 12 months before something in the electrical system fails. I'm on my 3rd unit in 2 years and that is with gentle but regular use. The sound is good. Sound stabilization prevents skipping. The ear buds are uncomfortable with extended use but that is common with most ear buds.
Summary: I had read previous reviews before I purchased this item and they were all very helpful. I listen to books on tape (CD) all the time. What I can add: This player is very economical. I always use rechargeable batteries, and I think the batteries have lasted at least twice as long--maybe three times longer. I also like the fact that it plays MP3s as well as regular CDs.
Summary: Sony D-NF340 CD Walkman & MP3 Player w/FM Tuner This is not a good item to purchase. I purchased one and after a few months it did not work properly. Skipped as you were listening to a book. Very frustrating. I just chalked it up as a fluke and ordered another one since the return time had passed. The second one did the same thing a few months later and it also exceeded the return time.
Summary: I purchased this player on 11/04/2011, and it played well initially. I only played one or cd's on it, then put it aside for a while (with no batteries inserted). On 12/22/2011, I attempted to use the player again, but it won't power up. I've tried fresh alkaline batteries and rechargeable ni-cad batteries, have checked and rechecked the polarity of the batteries, and ensured that the hold button was not in the "on" position. I simply can't get this player to do anything.
Summary: My 93 year-old mom is effectively blind and can't hear so well either, so I thought I'd give this a whirl. She was like a kid in a candy store! Kept saying, "This is the best present anyone ever gave me!" (Memory not so hot either.) She can hear books and classical music that she's been missing, and the controls are very, very simple. Opening and closing it is easy too. She forgets to turn it off, so if you are buying for an elderly person, better get the AC adapter.
Summary: Unfortunately, a CD player is a necessity at my job because we cannot have iPods. I originally bought an Insignia CD player from Best Buy. It played MP3 CDs but it always started from the beginning of a track, and the batter life wasn't very acceptable when I use it 7+ hours a day. It started breaking down from overuse and from just being kind of crappy to begin with, so I looked into this CD player. A friend at work purchased it and LOVED it.
Summary: I listen to audio books while I work, and this CD player is just what I was looking for. I can listen to the radio if I choose to, and when I'm listening to CD's, I can hit "stop" to go on break and when I come back and hit "play," it resumes in the same spot I left it in. Love that, as my previous CD player wouldn't hold its place unless I pushed "pause" and it ran the battery down.
