As much as I am sure long-time fans of the King of Fighters series will love this new and revamped entry and the wealth of content it contains, I cannot recommend it to anyone but said die-hard fans. A convoluted mess of a story combined with confusingly complex controls, a large but rather forgettable roster of fighters, and a difficulty curve that borders on sadistic will quickly overshadow the game’s few redeeming features. • Loads of content for long-time fans to sink their teeth into including a very stable and well-designed online multiplayer setup.
    • Punishing difficulty and confusing story are big turn-offs for casual gamers.

But despite the galling AI, for me, Valkyria Chronicles is one of the best games released this year, which was a pleasant surprise. Whether you’re usually a fan of SRPG’s or not it is packed full of so much charm, memorable moments and believable, loveable characters, backed up by a touching story, I would recommend you to go out and buy it now. No seriously, do it. Read more

It’s set perfectly for the busy gamer. In fact, let’s just call Valkyria Chronicles the busy gamer’s Final Fantasy . For others, there’s skirmishes to run that will help level up your characters and newspaper headlines to fill you in on more story. Valkyria Chronicles is one of those games that just fires on all cylinders and gets the important things right. Read more

    • Fun turn-based strategy gameplay, CANVAS graphics engine generates stunning visuals.

Visuals Valkyria Chronicles has a bright, lighthearted Japanese art style despite being a game about war, which makes it easy to track what is going on in the environment around you. The vast majority of the maps and text boxes are very easy to read, with high contrast between the text and the background as well as relatively large font (though the font size is not adjustable). One of three currently-available add-ons to the superb Strategy RPG Valkyria Chronicles , Enter the Edy Detachment! features a single brief mission starring a group of peripheral characters from the main game. The mission itself (defending a position followed by one character reaching a specific exit point) is somewhat challenging, although the initially-overwhelming odds are quickly overcome after a brief bit of experimentation. • It's great to see more from characters who didn't get enough screen time.
    • $5 seems a little high for one brief mission.

First, let me state that I recognize what follows is a minority opinion, based on all the 5-star reviews here on Amazon. I can understand why so many people love this game. I just wanted to offer a different perspective to let potential buyers know that not every player is necessarily going to have a 5-star experience. Please keep in mind that I did not hate this game, just didn't love it. Hence, my 3-star "middle of the spectrum" rating. Read more

Imagine watching a top-quality WW2 anime movie, but you are in command of the battle sequences. The graphics are incredible, the voice talent is movie-quality, the story could be it's own comic book, and the game play is addictive. Read more

Although this title is unrelated to the other valkyrie titles (valkyrie profile, vp silmeria, vp plume...), it's just as ridiculously tough! (valkyries are just as hot too!) including invincible enemies that kill you in 1 hit. No amount of leveling will help you with that. Read more
