Review Summary

Rock Band features guitar-based rhythm of the creators of the Guitar Hero franchise (Harmonix). Rock Band’s inclusion of vocals and drums differentiates it from other games. The real brilliance of Rock Band is in its multiplayer. You can have two guitarists, or one guitar player and a bass player, a vocalist, and the drummer. Almost every musician will love to play Rock Band. The game includes the four main instruments needed to make a rock band; namely guitar, bass, drums and vocals. And all together it…

And all together it turns out to be a highly playable and intensely addictive game. The multiplayer supersedes the solo player. This game is all about the act of performance as a band, getting a group of four people together and working together to get the highest score bonuses possible as a group. You will fake guitar playing and realistically singing and drumming your way through more than 40 different licensed rock hits. Any music lover will adore Rock Band. The singing game is also fun, it is almost like Karaoke. You sing along as the lyrics displayed on the screen, trying to match your vocal pitch to the meter that moves up and down with the original vocal track. As party games go, this is one of the best, its included hardware is a lot of fun to play with. The Band world tour mode is very addictive. This game will probably make you a better drummer. All in all the presentation is fantastic.

Pros & Cons

  • as party games go, fantastic presentation, awesome track list, peerless multiplayer, superb group play
  • drums are noisy, poor guitar, dlc is very expensive, gets a bit repetitive, some odd song decisions
  1. Rock Band Review

    06 May 2009

Everyone has been to a marginally hard rocking concert at some point in their life: the eardrum crushing noise, too many fat sweaty guys with long hair head banging and shamelessly air guitaring in unison. But not everyone can say they know the feeling of performing for a crowd, being part of a band, a musical team, a synergy of individual parts becoming one. Rock Band from Harmonix has capitalized on a fantasy that has permeated pop culture for more than half a century... Read more

Problems are present, such as the inclusion of a few foreign tracks in mystery set lists during the World Tour (not the easiest of songs to jump into without having any prior experience) and we still prefer the guitars included with Guitar Hero, but these aren't enough to hurt what is a unique gaming experience. It's all wrapped up with some superb visuals too, even if you'll hardly get time to watch the virtual band performing behind the fast moving on-screen icons. If... Read more

W ith the rhythm-action genre becoming something of a one horse race due to the dominance of Guitar Hero, original series developer Harmonix needed to produce something blinding to compete with the monster it had created. Read more

The winning triumvirate of inspired music game designers at Harmonix, the showbiz industry moguls at MTV, and the gaming industry behemoth that is Electronic Arts bring us the ultimate music creation/rock god-aping title: the simply and ingeniously entitled Rock Band. Not just a guitar or a microphone, but a whole band, see... Rock Band is a game in which up to four players - be they in the same room or online together in cyberspace - can jam on drums, lead guitar, bass... Read more

  5. Rock Band (PS3)

    31 January 2008

(Page 1 of 3) Rock Band is being called the "ultimate party game." I would take it one step further -- the game is a party in a box. It's the ultimate concession to your non-gaming friends and the apotheosis of social play. It lets adults live out the equivalent of their superhero fantasies and will invariably further Guitar Hero' s good work of introducing the kids to "real music." In the future, we may just reminisce about how Rock Band and games like it radically... Read more

My friends and I really enjoy this game. It promotes interaction with you and 3 others. The ability to buy new songs and play across the net with other 'players' in different regions greatly add to the strength of this game. Another fun aspect is the ability to compare your band's current stats with the rest of the community. Each time the game saves, your stats are automatically uploaded for comparison. Read more
