Pros & Cons

  • ai is impressive, cut scenes done well, awesome destructible environments, awesome world destruction, particularly with the sledgehammer
  • atmosphere less mars, paper thin, not enough character attachment, ridiculously hard in places, one trick pony

Strategic destruction takes center stage in the Red Faction: Guerrilla - Smasher Pack . This DLC for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 adds 8 new Wrecking Crew maps along with a new mode: Behemoth. The new mode focuses on using walker vehicles to inflict as much destruction as possible before handing off the controller to the next player. Jump behind the controls of any one of the three Walkers, demolish large towers and structures, then sit back and witness the devastating …

Had Red Faction Guerrilla's campaign been at a consistent high throughout we might have had a real game of the year contender on our hands. Even with some flaws, though, Guerrilla is a great game that comes highly recommended, in no small part to some superb multiplayer game modes that should see the game gain quite a following. More importantly, blowing things up is cool, and no game lets you see the destruction caused better than Volition's latest. Read more

by Youcef Baouchi How do you stop a force that has an entire world backing it up? Well, this is a question that Martian colonists ask themselves every day. The answer is, “let’s blow stuff up.” If you like the idea of exploding things on an alien planet and in a sandbox environment, then you will love Volition and THQ’s Red Faction: Guerrilla. Free roam games are like buses, you know, you wait ages for one and then three come at once. And three have arrived in the last week, but Red Faction Guerrilla has something the others don’t, and that’s an off world environment. While both inFamous and Prototype let you run amok in cities – and both do damn fine jobs at it too - Red Faction Guerrilla trades skyscrapers for the barren, dust ridden surface of Mars. Boasting one of the best destruction engines in any... Read more

Without question, my journey to Mars with Red Faction: Guerrilla was at the very least fun. However once you get past the thrill of blowing stuff up the game can feel a little hollow and I believe that's partly to blame on the setting. There simply isn't enough to see and do in this bleak and barren world other than build an urge to return to Earth. Read more

Can a game really fail to be fun if it involves blowing buildings up? Well, of course not, but it’s even better when said buildings fall to bits in a convincing manner: crumbling and giving way in the very manner that they would be expected to upon being purposely demolished. Read more

I did not like the Red Faction: Guerrilla game because there is hardly anything to do. I also thought the game was bad because it was on mars. The only thing i thought was fun in the game was driving and nocking buildings over.Another reason why i disliked the game is that you did not even have any guns. The game was rubbish because there was hardly any enemies to kill. Awesome singleplay with varying missions and side quests. Tons of weapons and vehicles. Tons of cheats. Big landscape. And for the first time in a sandbox game: a challenge. The multiplayer is amazing as well. There are many more tactics than other games thanks to the destruction. There are alot of unlocks (Which are just for looks), more weapons, backpacks that give you powerups (including a jetpack), and gamemodes. If you liked shadowrun, this multiplayer is a must.... I can't believe this is the same Red Faction that was on PS2. For one thing, your people that walk around as if they are in a daze and walk right in front of the vehicle you are driving. The objectives are not explained all that good. This game has too many side missions and time comsuming things. For me I'm down to the bone game player as just give me an objective to do and I'll do it. I am so disappointed in this game that I'm sorry that this is a part of the Red... Read more

Have you ever wanted to know what it would be like if you set a proper go-anywhere, destroy-anything game somewhere like Mars? Well, wonder no longer. Red Faction:Guerilla is here. And what an entrance it makes. Lets start with the one thing that everyone mentions first about this game - the DESTRUCTION. Honestly, the engine they use for this is staggering and way better than anything I have seen before it. Can you see that car several miles away in the distance? Go and... Read more
