The game is set in a fictional city called Liberty City whose landscape and style is based heavily on New York City.
Players of Grand Theft Auto IV takes on the role of an Eastern European war veteran named Niko Bellic. Bellic moved to Liberty City in hope of achieving the American Dream. However, he quickly becomes involved in Liberty City’s world of crime, corruption, and gangs. There, players must pursue a number of missions in order to progress in the game.
In this primarily third-person shooter and driving game, players can move around on foot by walking, running, climbing, and jumping. The characters are also capable of swimming. Players can also make use of weapons as well as engage in hand-to-hand combat. Apart from these, players can drive a number of vehicles including automobiles, motorcycles, boats, and helicopters. The same set of vehicles can be stolen by the players.
Although it does not feature split screen or LAN multiplayer modes, Grand Theft Auto IV offers 15 online multiplayer modes that support up to 16 players. Among the available modes are Team Deathmatch, Team Mafiya Work, Team Car Jack City, Cops n’ Crooks, and Turf War. Other modes include Race, GTA Race, Hangman’s N.O.O.S.E., Deal Breaker, and Bomb da Base II. The game also features a Free Mode where players are free to explore the city without having to complete a mission.

According to a certain user who was disappointed by the fact the game is based in the Liberty City rather than in New York. Whether it is about the missions, the moment-to-moment action, the controls, the dynamic city, the technology, the graphics, or any of countless other aspects, all these are being talked about by reviewers as well as gamers who are excited about the game. Though some reviewers feel when it comes to combat, GTA IV has a lot in common to the game, Gears of War. Gamers as well as reviewers are happy to notice that GTA IV has all the expected inside features that they would want. Like the smooth and accurate control for targeting, intuitive cover mechanics and non-restrictive agility. Thanks to the way the targeting mechanics have been created, players who have never play any game in the GTA series, would be able to start out with this one easily and at the same time having lots of fun playing it. A certain reviewer quoted that the trigger-based lock-on system looks very intuitive, enabling the player to quickly move from target to target, as well as making minor movements while focusing on one target. This game has a brand new level and it is for multiple systems.

Grand Theft Auto IV is better in every way possible. The more lifelike direction that the team went in takes a little getting used to, especially when it comes to getting behind the wheel, but once you get over the learning curve, you’re handed an amazing experience and hands down the best work Rockstar North has ever put out. In previous games it felt like you were playing with action figures in this open world—it was fun, but it didn’t feel real. In Grand Theft... Read more
One of the greatest video game stories ever told. It may have its flaws, but it is the most ambitious game made to date and, without a doubt, the best game so far this generation. Read more
How's that for a list of crap you've got to install? Why not just ask for a kidney, too? Writing for Crispy has a raft of benefits, but when it comes time to address Grand Theft Auto, there's nothing better than sheltering under the umbrella of our rating system, away from the argument about whether Grand Theft Auto IV deserves a perfect rating. I went into this review excited to engage some of the topics that came up when the game first hit consoles, but without the... Read more
Rockstar's magnum opus is a modern-day masterpiece that could change the way the world views videogames. Read more
Grand Theft Auto IV builds on the game play that has worked so well for them in pass titles. The game still provides diverse missions and a huge amount of things to do. The graphics are great and the controls have a nice polish to them. The addition of online multiplayer makes the game that much more epic. I beat the game the other day and I must the story in this game is much better than the others. Read more
This game just blows me away the way the game just takes you to the life of crime is really good. The game interface is well setup. The graphics are very well it seems as though you are really there. I always like these type of games if you want to kill everyone in sight you can do that. You have more options of going into stores and buying whatever. the missions are okay but there are plenty of sidemissions to keep you going. overall if i was to rate this game it... Read more

I have played every GTA game since the very begnning and even before that. The game called "New York City" was a C640/C128 game that I played religiously as a child and I have a suspicion that the original GTA series was motivated from this very early game. GTA 4 obviously is the best yet due to an increase in available technology and even more time spent adding details. The obvious and subtle details in this game combine to give this game a feel that I have never gotten... Read more
After having played this game, i have to say not all that great. Basically an enormous amount of fetch quests that are the same thing over and over again. If you're not taking someone down, or dropping someone off...you're not doing anything. Plus, if you fail a mission you have to restart from the beginning which is awful. Controls are okay but Crispin is crazy. EGM must be getting paid by rockstar for that review. No way....no way. Read more
