Devil May Cry 4

Developed and published by Capcom, the Devil May Cry 4 action/hack and slash video game was released for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 game consoles as well as on Windows PCs. This single-player game is the fourth installment in the popular Devil May Cry series and is the series’ fastest sequel to reach the 2 million copies sold mark—reaching the milestone in only its first month.

Gameplay

This game places the player in a storyline taking place after the original Devil May Cry game and before its first sequel. In Devil May Cry 4, unlike the previous three installments, the player gets to take control of both Dante and Nero—a new character. The first three games had Dante as the main character while Devil May Cry 4 has Nero as the main protagonist. Making re-appearances from the older games in the series are Trish and Lady to go along with the new characters Credo, Gloria, Kyrie and Agnus.

As a hack and slash game, the gamer—playing as either Nero or Dante—fight their way through numerous enemies using different kinds of weapons like firearms and swords.

Apart from controlling two characters, the Capcom developers have also added a few other changes. Devil May Cry 4 now has a new currency called Proud Souls. These are awarded to the player at the end of each mission with the amount depending on the player’s performance. Proud Souls can then be used to acquire new abilities while Red Orbs are used to purchase items for the character.

  1. Devil May Cry 4 (Demo): First Thoughts

    19 May 2009

Read my full review of Devil May Cry 4 here. So today as I logged into the Playstation Store to see if any new games were around, wouldn’t you know it I found a demo for Capcom’s Devil May Cry 4. So anybody who has owned a Playstation before has probably played DMC and kind of [...] Read more

  2. Devil May Cry 4

    08 May 2009

After fighting through enough levels, Nero (and eventually Dante) has a huge number of moves to choose from. The better a player you are—meaning, the speed with which you finish a level, the number secrets you discover, and the volume of blood orbs you collect—the more moves you can unlock for the heroes. Even better, Dante and Nero have unique and independent fighting styles, so the game plays one way going up, and a different way going down. Nero has his Devil... Read more

Whether you’re a noob or a veteran DMC- fan, DMC4 is an excellent addition to any collection. From its beautiful graphics to its polished audio effects and music, DMC4 is a work of art. Sure, it’s not perfect, but even when you’re playing through the same levels again, using a different character does change the experience. Character #2 plays nothing like Nero and, with the weapons you pick up along the way, there’s defiantly a lot of chances for variance.... Read more

The popular Devil May Cry series has followed the exploits of Devil Hunter for hire Dante, and his scantily clad entourage through several installments. The first title was a huge step forward for action games, the second was one of the worst sequels of all time and although the third was a return to form for our badass near-albino hero, the difficulty made it only for the hardest of the hardcore devil slayers. 5. E3 Preview: 'Devil May Cry 4' (PS3)

    03 May 2009

They say that the devil is in the detail, and if that so happens to be true, then Devil May Cry 4 certainly has it in droves. Fans of the long running franchise will find something here to fit their evil creature slaying needs, as well as new players alike. Devil May Cry 4 is extremely open in terms of control to new players, as you can swing and shoot with random weapon button presses to cause some damage, but it will take practice to pull all the moves off and have... For me this was the sort of game you play through, enjoy it very much, complete it and forget about it straight away. Storyline is pretty decent and the fighting cut-scenes look great. It provided a much needed challenge after a lot of (easy) games. Worth a go! Read more

The devil‘s in the details. In the fantastical world that surrounds the city of Fortuna, the people worship Sparda, a rebel demon warrior and whose son, Dante, has been the wise–cracking bad ass demon hunter of the first three groundbreaking titles. Devil May Cry is steeped in pistol and sword–totting special moves, acrobatic third–person fighting and boss and bad guy chasing to make the screen shake. Around all this is a fantasy plot full of twists and turns,... Read more
