Darksiders is a title that takes a lot of bold risks and almost all of them pay off, but it's not without it's share of technical issues. While it may have the drive to run with the big dogs, it lacks the final polish that one would hope for. Darksiders deserves attention. As a new franchise it does so many things right and should find a place for itself in a massively crowded market. If War was a more engaging character and the combat more refined, Darksiders would stand as one of the early contenders for game of the year. Playing Darksiders over the Christmas break, I couldn’t help feeling somewhat of a Scrooge. Its protagonist, War, is one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and isn’t keen on partaking in any celebratory festivities. With "Darksiders" being compared to a number of other games it was always a danger that it could fall short having been unfairly compared to such titles. What Darksiders offers though is a very enjoyable game in it’s own respect backed by a solid story and some excellent visuals. Read more
Both Zelda and God of War are some of gaming’s most revered of franchises; and as a result they’ve been imitated, but their mechanics have rarely appeared side by side as a concoction in a single game. Darksiders, though, is a hybrid of the two games and could almost be their child, if such a thing were possible. Read more
In Darksiders, the first game effort from Vigil Games, you play as War, the 2nd of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse from the Bible's Book of Revelation. It starts of with a great video sequence, then you start playing it in a 3rd-person perceptive one-century later.
