Brütal Legend™ marries visceral action combat with open-world freedom, set in a universe somewhere between Lord of the Rings and Spinal Tap. It’s a fresh take on the action/driving genre, which is full of imitation cover bands. The vivid and wildly creative world of Brütal Legend is brought to life through a spate of chrome, leather, rocker babes, epic music, fire-breathing/stud-wearing beasts, mountains made of guitar amps, and more. Follow Eddie as he embarks on a t…
Brutal Legend is a game that an awful lot of people are going to enjoy, despite its combat failings. It's undoubtedly a fun game, packed full with humour (although this does tail off towards the end), metal references, amazing encounters and memorable characters. It's the RTS sections that really let the game down for me, feeling like a good idea that hasn't quite been implemented well enough to gel with the rest of the game. It's testament to the quality of Brutal... Read more
Jack Black, the can't-quite-tell-when-he's-serious actor, has an effusive personality. Star of many movies (and bit-player in many more), Jack Black (never just Jack) is also a member of Tenacious D, a tongue-in-cheek (we assume) heavy metal band with a couple of CDs and even a movie to their name. His appearance, then, in a not-really-serious-yet-unmistakably-hardcore Heavy Metal themed videogame should come as no surprise. Read more
Ultimately, Brutal Legend manages to paper over the cracks of its various shortfalls through sheer force of will, with the highlights proving engaging enough to keep you playing. For example, rolling across the heavy metal planes in The Deuce with Judas Priest blaring from your speakers is very nearly worth the price of admission alone, as is the wonderfully crafted script. It also offers enough variety and quirky ideas to hold your attention, with the fast turn-over... Read more
Whether it's excellent vocal performances from heavy hitters of metal or a strong multiplayer element, Brutal Legend is a game that continually surprises, and it does so in a genuinely fun and interesting way. And Double Fine deserves some major respect for keeping so many aspects of the game closely tied to its subject matter. Of course, Brutal Legend also has some shortcomings. The secondary missions are weak and the single-player campaign lasts about seven hours if... Read more
Brutal Legend manages to display the Heavy Metal world in game form and even may bring people not familiar with the music genre to appreciate it. The world is filled with fantasy, even unique and contains a ton of artefacts linked to Heavy Metal. The hack&slash and free-roaming parts are very well worked out and fun to play, but personally I couldn't really get to like the RTS Battle Stages. Tim Shafer finally succeeded to create a "commercial" game and I'll keep hoping... Read more
You play roadie (voiced by Jack black) who is transported to some demonic world and have to hack and slash your way through the game. However you also get a guitar which makes lightning and can kill your enemies (it heats up though, so use it wisely). The cut scenes are very amusing and the games contains some strong language too (although you do have the option to have it bleeped out). Graphics are pretty good in a cartoony way. If you like games such as the superior... Read more
My usual Good vs. Bad review (MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! You have been warned) So, I have been following and waiting for this game almost a year and must say, I have a lot of mixed emotions... This game is good, actually, it's great! But there are some things that kinda make it frustrating and avoidable... Want to know what those things are? Find out in my Good vs Bad review! The Good: ~ The games graphics and sounds are great, as well as the animations. Each character has... Read more
Graphics: The world is imaginatively designed and looks fantastic. We have the 'screaming wall' which is a wall of amps that constantly produce feedback, we have enemies in the form of goths and glam rockers and we have spiders that spin bass strings instead of guitar strings. Genius. Story: Its a decent yarn at the end of the day, if a bit cliche at times. There are some great laughs to be had, but they do peter out at the end. It keeps the game moving forward, thats... Brutal Legend was one of my anticipated games when it came out because it featured Jack Black, The story follows Eddie Riggs who is the best roadie, and he makes an army to rid heavy metal heaven from the evil bad guy who is called Lord Divicilous. All I can say this game is just epic the writing is sharp throughout the game, but the humor does wade of a little bit as you progress through the game. I really enjoyed the storyline but I kind of lost interest towards the... Read more
Tim Schafer has again brought a great game into the hard core gamers' consoles. Brutal Legend is awesome in its own uniqueness, how it can never be copied. Much like Psychonauts, this is a trippy dream realm where you star as Eddie Riggs. This is where most reviews would start. But not for Brutal Legend. Even the opening cinematic is awesome, with Jack Black in real life going into a record store, and pulling out the record, which is ultimately the menu screen... Read more
