The bad news for Namco and Afro Samurai fans is that the game falls into that not good but not bad category. Hardcore fans of the genre are even less likely to get anything from the game. Read more
Afro Samurai is a very capable brawler. The combat is well-executed throughout. The music and voice acting are both top-notch, but the sound effects need some work. The graphics are consistently impressive, from great environments, to lovingly-crafted character models. The story has some huge divergences from the animated series, but they work to the game’s benefit rather than its detriment. All in all, a quality first offering from a promising new studio. Nagging issues keep Afro Samurai from excelling into a hack-and-slash classic but the style does, at times, trump substance and put a smile on your face. Though you've heard Samuel L. Jackson fire off cuss words in rapid succession before, you've likely never seen a game that looks like Afro Samurai or fought to a more engaging soundtrack. Read more

Just remember Surge, "it's nothing personal" Afro Samurai is one of my favorite animes of all time, so when I heard there was going to be a game adaptation my mind conjured up the dream of playing through one of my favorite stories. The TV show is very much action oriented so it seemed like a perfect fit for a video game; it is unfortunate that the game of my dreams was never actually created. Read more
In the end, I was glad it was over. The initial flare it possessed had faded away long ago, and the whole experience began to dull and repeat itself. I do commend Jackson for working on projects such as this. It’s very similar to to his reason for playing in Snakes on a Plane . He used to watch crappy movies like that when he was a young punk, and so he wanted to give back. Read more
Afro Samurai doesn’t revolutionize action gameplay. It does, however, bring a level of quality to the presentation that is wholly appealing. On the basis of visuals and sound quality alone, this game simply can’t be failed. However, the game doesn’t just employ beautiful graphics and awesome music. I thoroughly enjoyed Afro Samurai’s combat mechanics. Read more

I love the show, i love the idea i even loved the demo in all of its flaws. And yet somehow after playing the game i just couldnt get the same feeling i had when i played the demo. Some things that annoyed me. Leveling up. What the hell is that! It would be more interesting if you had some form of life bar to see that way we knew when to block and when to look for those teddy bears to get our health back. You go far too long in between times when you chop someone up. Read more
This review is for Afro Samurai, a game for the Playstation III. The game is an action and fighting game, based on the anime series of the same name. Afro Samurai, the character in the game you play, has to explore through multiple levels, and although there are some platforming and adventure elements in the game, most of what you have to do is fighting. Downloaded a demo of this from the U.S playstation store. Basically a ’Ninja Gaiden’ ripoff, with cel-shaded graphics. Its gets boring very quickly, and the constant foul language is very infantile. Get ’Ninja Gaiden Sigma (U.S version), or Devil May Cry 4 instead of this rubbish. Read more
