Excerpt: It’s safe to say that the original Zone of the Enders didn’t end up being the system seller that Konami and the press had hyped it up to be in the months before its release nearly two years ago. Let’s be frank, it was a disappointment. Luckily, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner improves upon the groundwork that the first game laid in nearly every respect.
Excerpt: The original Zone of the Enders was a good game. Perhaps it wasn't such an amazing idea to attach Hideo Kojima's name to the title with all the hype of Metal Gear Solid 2 reaching such a fever pitch since expectations for anything with his name on it would be huge, but there's no doubt that bundling in a demo for MGS2 sold plenty of copies of the first ZOE game.
Excerpt: Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner epitomizes almost everything a sequel should be insofar as it improves upon its predecessor in every conceivable manner--and there was a lot to improve upon. The original Zone of the Enders was heavily criticized for its whiny protagonist, self-indulgent storyline about killing and war, and its gameplay, which ultimately fell short of delivering the epic anime-style mech battles that the game was so obviously inspired by.
Conclusion: Another excellent, stylish, story-packed title from Kojima - but again a title that is just too short. We can hope for a longer sequel, but in the mean time, fans of anything action related should give this a go now.
Summary: Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner hinterlässt leider zwiespältige Gefühle.
