Yu Yu Hakusho: Dark Tournament PS2 Review
31 May 2010
Excerpt: To be honest, we have never heard of Yu Yu Hakusho the bizarrely named anime series that this game is based on. However, for the purpose of this review, and especially for all you like-minded clueless types out there, we have done some serious research. Yu Yu Hakusho follows the exploits of the delinquent Yusuke Urameshi, who uncharacteristically sacrifices himself to protect a child who is about to be hit by a car.
Excerpt: Yu Yu Hakusho is a lot like Dragon Ball Z. The main difference is that there is a whole lot more fighting and a lot less screaming about power levels in Yu Yu Hakusho. Both series focus on groups of powerful fighters taking on all comers...
Conclusion: To be perfectly honest, I really can’t see why anyone but a big fan of the anime would go out and buy this game. There are many fighting games on PlayStation2, and the majority of them are head and shoulders above what Digital Fiction have failed to achieve with Yu Yu. It’s a shame really as it could have been fun, but it just doesn’t deliver the goods and fighting game essentials that people expect in 2005.
Pros: Lots of characters from the TV show., Plenty of unlockable stuff., Story mode is great, if you’re into the anime.
Cons: Very basic combat system., Unresponsive controls., No depth to the characters moves.
