Ys: The Ark of Napishtim

Thunderbolt Games
10 January 2008
  • Excerpt: What is it with the heroes of RPGs beginning their adventures by being washed ashore on some exotic beach? Link did it recently in The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Alundra had it happen way back in his self-titled debut on the PlayStation. Even Tidus in Final Fantasy X had a go at this peculiar habit.

Ys: The Ark of Napishtim review (PS2)

HonestGamers

  • Excerpt: Although the character models have changed, the music and locales are as gorgeous as before. Every room in the Temple of Memory is infested with skittering insects that drop from the ceilings, sometimes on Adol's head! With angler-like antennae lighting their way in the dark, these bugs crawl along the floors and ceiling as water flows down the walls into shallow ruts around each chamber's periphery.

  • Conclusion: Basic and unassuming, this is an RPG for gamers that love RPGs. No complex battle system, no hugely epic storyline, just old-school goodness by the fistful.

  • Conclusion: One thing is certain, it is very hard to find any faults with this latest Ys game. The game is simply pure fun from start to finish. After playing The Ark of Napishtim, it’s easy to see why action RPGs were so much fun back in the old days. It’s nice to see that some developers are still making games the old way. Hopefully, we’ll get more Ys love in the future. It is very hard to score this game.

Ys: The Ark of Napishtim

  • Conclusion: Hach, was war das wieder schön!
