Yanya Caballista: City Skater
4 September 2006
Excerpt: As dawn approaches San Francisco, the city awakens from its slumber and begins its morning routine. The fog slowly creeps out of the streets and into the bay, revealing countless one-way streets and sprawling neighborhoods. A street-sweeper is churning down an avenue, a bell clangs as a cable car lurches forward, and the smell of baking sourdough bread wafts through the breeze.
Excerpt: There's something a little distancing about controlling a skateboarding game with a regular hand controller. When you consider the supreme levels of balance, coordination and concentration required to do tricks on an actual skateboard, simulating the experience with a handheld piece of molded plastic seems almost like twiddling your thumbs. Arcade games like Sega's Top Skater have tried to fix this problem using a full sized skateboard controller with mixed results.
