When the SmackDown series began in 2000, it was seen as a fun, but hollow alternative to the deeper Aki offerings. Over time, Aki’s relationship with THQ dissolved, leaving Yuke’s as the primary WWE game developer, and now they’re the only one, with this hollow game engine (originally created for a $15 budget game in Japan) as “the” game engine to represent wrestling for the foreseeable future. For comparison, imagine someone trying to develop something as deep... Read more
After beating my opponent over the head with a crutch that I stole from a spectator, I strangled him with a speaker wire, then rammed his head into a TV until it sparked and exploded. Is this wrestling or attempted murder? As ridiculous as the backstage interactions may be, this is the level of interactivity that this series has needed. And I've always hated the long loading times, some things never do... Read more
