Excerpt: Smackdown, in the capable hands of Yukes, is viewed as the most “Arcade” of THQ’s wrestling titles. Its fast paced action and reversal heavy tilt has ingratiated it to many Playstation fans but has also alienated the fans of the more strategic N64 releases. I personally thoroughly enjoyed the first Smackdown on the PSX, was frustrated with the long loading times of Smackdown 2 and despised the reversal filled mess that was Smackdown: JBI.
Excerpt: Bonding with sweaty males has never been a fixation for me. You have to look past the obvious disgust of fighting men in speedos in order to find out what wrestling is all about. The tense rivalries, the funny speeches, the high-risk maneuvers… and lets not forget about the women! Yes, yes, it is truly a crude sport, especially when it’s targeted towards males that will never kiss a woman other than their mother. Despite these ramblings, I enjoy wrestling.
Excerpt: So what has changed between WWE Smackdown! Just Bring It and Shut Your Mouth ? Just about everything really. Fans of the series will instantly recognize the jump in the quality of the graphics. Where Just Bring It seemed like a high-res version of the PSX Smackdown games, Shut Your Mouth looks like a next generation wrestling title, with improved character models, lighting and even more animation than before.
Excerpt: The PS-born wrestler has long been in the running -- as far as wrestling game series go -- and is usually regarded as one of the best wrestling series out there, if not the best. Yuke's first foray at a PS2-established Smackdown game was rather satisfying, but it didn't reach nearly its full potential, and while Smackdown SYM shares some of the same shortcomings, the game is far more developed and refined everywhere you look.
