World Soccer: Winning Eleven 9

Playstation Illustrated
5 March 2006
  • Excerpt: The rules of soccer are very simple, basically it is this: if it moves, kick it. If it doesn't move, kick it until it does. ~Phil Woosnam, 1974 Feel like a game of football, eh? Of course, not your typical game of "football", at least not in the American sense. Rather, this is the fleet-footed, shin-guarded, "goal-tastic" sport that is loved the world over, much more so than that aforementioned, barbaric contest.

Winning Eleven 9

Operation Sports
2 March 2006
  • Excerpt: I have this theory that, at the core, there are two types of sports gamers in the world. There is the die-hard, sim-action, ultra-real, gameplay-first, roster-file, slider-setting, Operation Sports Kool-Aid drinkin’ "hardcore sports gamer". Then there is the "gamer who plays sports games". I’m not here to say which one is better. I’m not here to say which camp is the right camp. I’m just here to recognize the existence of both.

Game Freaks 365
17 February 2006
  • Excerpt: Everybody knew about the rivalry between Madden and NFL 2K. It seemed that everyone picked sides, making the rivalry as divisive as Republican vs. Democrat or Protestant vs. Catholic. Unbeknownst to most people, there’s a battle waging in another sport by the name of football (okay, futbol): FIFA vs. Winning Eleven. As in all other sports, EA reigns supreme in the sales charts, but Winning Eleven fans are diehards.

PSX Extreme
16 February 2006
  • Excerpt: Winning Eleven has always had a deep feature list, and it was made even better this year with the inclusion of online play. As usual, the menus aren't very exciting and they can be a little cumbersome to navigate, though they are better than years past. Available options include quick start match, Master League, League, Cup, training, and edit. The game's training mode is quite robust, taking you from the extreme basics of soccer to more advanced techniques.

Winning Eleven 9

  • Conclusion: Winning Eleven 9, bzw.
