World Heroes Anthology (PS2)

The Review Busters
6 October 2008
  • Conclusion: If you own a Playstation 2 and you love World Heroes then you’re in luck. This game isn’t for fans of any 2-D fighter. It lacks a lot of things that we see in most other 2-D fighting games. Though for $20 you can’t complain too much, before you know it this game will be reduced to nothing.

World Heroes Anthology review (PS2)

HonestGamers
22 May 2008
  • Excerpt: ’s Ryu and Ken, right down to the fact that the ‘alternate’ choice is the guy in red. Even their moves are rip-offs – a rising uppercut, a spinning attack, and a projectile attack – all effected in the exact same way as in Capcom’s game. This wouldn't be so bad if the newer game actually improved upon the source material. As it is, the moves that enaged, that elicited such a gut feeling of satisfaction in the execution, here come off with little pay-off for the player.

World Heroes Anthology Review

GameSpot
15 May 2008
  • Summary: Despite the arcade-perfect porting job, this shameless Street Fighter II rip-off hasn't aged well at all.
  • Pros: Insane and hilarious cast of characters, Deathmatch mode adds variety, The only game that lets you throw ghost sharks at Hulk Hogan
  • Cons: The poor man's Street Fighter II, Deathmatch mode was removed after World Heroes 2, Clunky, sometimes nonresponsive controls, Aged visuals and gameplay

World Heroes Anthology

Thunderbolt Games
27 April 2008
  • Excerpt: Question for you: When you think of SNK, what kinds of games come to mind? Chances are, you’ll think of the King of Fighters series, and for good reason; those well crafted titles helped shape the development of fighting games beyond the countless Street Fighter II clones flooding the gaming scene. Or perhaps you’d mention the Fatal Fury or Art of Fighting series, both which provided the origins for countless other SNK titles.

PSX Extreme
31 March 2008
  • Excerpt: Assembling a fantastic compilation requires more than just slapping together titles from a franchise and putting them all on one disc. No, the developer should probably attempt to include a few other features that cater specifically to avid followers of the series in question, and that might include unlockables (for screenshot or even video galleries), added characters or levels, and/or updated visuals.

Expert Review

Krawall Gaming Network
22 August 2008
  • Pros: Originalgetreue Umsetzung, Buntes Aufgebot an Kämpfern
  • Cons: Unspektakuläre Grafik, Träge Steuerung
