Excerpt: It isn’t very often that you get to review a game that stands alone as the only title of its kind available for a platform, but this is something that is true of Codemasters’ World Championship Snooker 2003 (if you discount the prequel, that is.) Maybe the reason for this is that snooker isn’t the world’s most popular sport ‘ far from it ‘ and that the aforementioned prequel to WCS2003 hardly lit up the charts in a blaze of chalk dust and cigarette smoke.
Excerpt: Snooker is a ‘sport’ for the dirty minded, like me. How the commentators get away with such remarks as ‘wiping the cue’, ‘kissing the pink’, ‘nudging the black’, and ‘hugging the cushion’ is outstanding. It’s just a matter of time until John Virgo screams into his mic ‘they’re ****ing in the showers!. It was also a matter of time until we saw a decent polygonal structure, otherwise known as a videogame, of the gentleman’s sport.
Conclusion: All in all, a worthy update of the best simulation of the great game - but it's unlikely to appeal to anyone other than snooker loopy nuts (like us), and needed more polish (and we're not talking about the nice shiny balls and trophies).
Pros: Perfect ball physics totally convince., The game allows you to play like a pro and make big breaks., 28 of the World's top players., You can play 8-ball and 9-ball pool too!
Cons: Disappointing player models and animation., Some issues with the control method and aiming., We wanted this game in April,, July.
