From the Hand of a Golem

RPGamer
15 April 2010
  • Excerpt: A mysterious girl falls out of the sky in a golem's arm, and the search for Johnny Appleseed begins in the latest installment of the Wild ARMs series. Wild ARMs 5 marks the return of the HEX battle system and draws much more on the roots of the series than did its predecessor, which lacked many elements seen in the games before.

PSX Extreme

  • Excerpt: If you're surprised to see continued consistent support for the PS2, you really shouldn't be, considering there are 130 million consoles worldwide. Many developers and publishers have already pledged more titles for the PS2 well into 2008, which means we'll be seeing a lot more games...and probably, a lot more RPGs.

  • Excerpt: It has been 10 years since the creation of the Wild ARMs franchise by Sony and Media Vision Entertainment. With that comes a special anniversary edition of the game including an 80-page art book. This only has one print run, so once they are gone, they are gone. Wild ARMs 5 has a completely independent story from the other games allowing newcomers to pick up and play without having to be concerned about being lost along the plot line.

  • Excerpt: Is Filgaia ever not dying? Apparently it just can’t have health and strength long enough to make a video game, so here we are saving its barren ass again, with a different set of loveable misfits.

Wild ARMs 5

Gaming Evolution

  • Conclusion: As we look at the overall picture of Wild ARMs 5, it’s easy to see the bad within the game, but there is so much promise and creativity that keeps this game afloat while others would flop. Though this title wasn’t rush, a bit more time could have been spent polishing up the graphics some more and including more sound bits to get rid of the repetitive nature of the game.

Wild ARMs 5

Project COE
28 August 2007
  • Conclusion: Overall, Wild ARMs 5 is a great, solid RPG experience. It offers nearly 40 hours of gameplay, and the unique nuances from the fourth game have made a wonderful return here. There are some fine touch-ups here and there, a slight increase in difficulty (although it may border on easy for many), and some really neat features—a full world to explore and usable ARMs outside of battle being some of the cooler attractions.
