The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie PS2 Review
31 May 2010
Excerpt: Jak II may have thrown the platforming rulebook out of the window, but many games still walk that well trodden route of unoriginality. Some may pass games like SpongeBob off as just another generic platformer and then avoid it like a deadly contagious disease. Innovation is always a nice thing for a game to showcase, but going back to the platform barebones still provides us with some enjoyable gaming moments, as evident in SpongeBob’s latest.
Excerpt: Kids today just don't realise how lucky they are growing up with such surreal cartoon fineries as Spongebob Squarepants. As an avid watcher of satellite television cartoon channels, I would class it (along with Fairly Odd Parents, Invader Zim and Samurai Jack) as one of the best non-adult specific cartoons ever made.
Conclusion: The Spongebob Squarepants Movie is quirky and fun, with enough charm to keep the Spongebob fans interested. It has everything a kid’s platformer should have, except for a consistent difficulty setting. This is a game (like cutting with scissors) that will require the help of an adult, but that still won’t guarantee getting past that ring level…
Pros: Full of Spongebob charm., Lots of mini-games., Extras from the film.
Cons: The mini-games can be, annoyingly tough., Backtracking to find stuff starts to tire., Did I mention the annoying mini-games?
Conclusion: A good and very entertaining game while it lasts, which does justice to its tag of “Movie- License” surprisingly. The gamer has plenty to do to live the adventures from the big screen ‘at home’ from the comfort of their sofa. It’s a shame that whilst there has obviously been an attempt to bring back the gamer to do the little tasks most of the target audience will not want to go and do extra missions again.
