Excerpt: The Sims is a behemoth in the PC gaming world. The series has sold copies by the truck load for years now, and The Sims 2 can now be experienced on consoles. I'll admit to being more than a little down on the game a few days ago, but after a brief conversation with an old colleague I felt I should give it one last chance.
Conclusion: Maxis had an almighty task in trying to surpass The Sims but they've managed to succeed. The four years development time hasn't been wasted and what we have here is a game that's deeper, richer and far more satisfying than The Sims ever was. Sims fans everywhere will be thrilled with The Sims 2 with only the steep system requirements being a fly in the ointment.
Excerpt: Instead of the government investing in the affects of violence in video games, they should put their money into something more meaningful, like building rehabilitation centers for recovering Sims fans. The government’s slow response to this crisis is egregious. It is as if our tax dollars are going to tax cuts for the rich or something.
Excerpt: The Sims series, as you probably know by now, allows the gamer to control a little world of virtual people, monitoring their every need from achieving their life goals to using the bathroom. The Sims 2 expanded on that with an aspiration system that gave new direction to the little people’s lives, as well as nice details like a family tree system that allowed the player to create two adult characters, roll the dice, and see how their kids would turn out.
Summary: Originally base on the PC, The Sims has taken over the world! For some weird unknown reason people like playing God to these gibberish speaking CPU Human beings. Ok, so you can do some really cruel stuff to your sims or you can make them Law abiding citizens with huge houses and cool gadgets inside and make them happy, but whats the point in that!
Conclusion: For the majority of time this was a game that I quite enjoyed. The vast array of different things you can do with your sim is wonderful, from making them into a hippy that loves the world to creating a red-blooded woman that likes to sleep about, it’s all there and then some. The graphics in the game are nice enough without ever excelling as the gameplay is really where the game shines.
Excerpt: EA gets a lot of flack every year for releasing titles that are barely upgraded upon their predecessors, despite the criticism no-one can argue that they took a risk in 2000 when they released The Sims for the PC. It's hard to imagine that the worlds greatest selling PC game has already half a decade old. In this time there have been numerous Sims expansions for the PC and EA even made the jump to the consoles in 2003.
