Suikoden V PS2 Review

Console Obsession
31 May 2010
  • Excerpt: The Suikoden series has always delivered a compulsive storyline, which is up there amongst the best yarns in not only RPGS but entertainment as a whole. It certainly tells a better story than it plays a game, so much so that it’s easy to forget that the series has always had its shortcomings, and despite reaching its fifth instalment and tenth year, they still have yet to be addressed.

Suikoden V – Staff Retroview

RandomNPC
26 July 2008
  • Excerpt: With six games to its name in North America (five regular games and one spinoff: Suikoden Tactics ), the Suikoden series had been a staple of the RPG genre — if a bit of a dark horse. Suikoden V is a solid addition to the series as well as a great place for players who’ve never tried the series to get their feet wet.

Suikoden V

Just RPG
11 January 2007
  • Excerpt: In March 2006, Konami released Suikoden V , the newest installment in their popular RPG series. For the most part, the series has always been strong, but it was obvious that it was at its lowest point with the release of the series' fourth installment. So will Suikoden V bring the glory back to the series? The storyline of the game takes place in the Queendom of Falena and follows the adventure of the land's Prince.

  • Excerpt: Any role-playing game (RPG) worth its salt is going to be long on storytelling and rich with character development. Suikoden V is certainly all that, but to the point of over indulgence. Hours into it, you wonder when the actual action is going to kick in and give the entire preamble a point, at which point the action kicks in and gives the entire preamble a point. Phew.

  • Excerpt: And that's how we arrive at Suikoden V. Though you, you smartypants reader, have probably long since noticed, it took me the whole paragraph to figure out what a bad metaphor that was. Still, it's a healthy and accurate facsimile for the ups-and-downs this oft-loved series has endured.

  • Excerpt: You gotta catch them all! ...No, not Pokemon. Stars of Destiny. The next chapter in the Suikoden series is here, following the adventures of the Prince of Falena as he works to prevent disaster from reaching his family, friends, and the Queendom. (Yeah, you read right. Queendom.
  • Pros: ups: beautiful graphics, great storyline, variety of action
  • Cons: downs: overabundance of in-game movies, navigation, some pixelation/slow movement
