Excerpt: After the release of the newest installment to their Ridge Racer series, which proved to be more sim than arcade, Namco looks to be putting their fingers into the import racing genre, a series of games that has grown since the release of the movie The Fast and the Furious and various games like Need for Speed Underground , Midnight Club 2 and Tokyo Xtreme Racer .
Pros: Nice physics and control, Open-ended cities to race in, Lots of depth in the garage
Cons: Repetitive and mediocre music, Graphics could be more impressive, Doesn't feel all that fast
Conclusion: There's little doubt that SRS is enjoyable game to play - whilst it lasts - but with such a huge amount of other titles all offering similar gameplay features in this heavily crowded genre it's hard to see quite what makes SRS: Street Racing Syndicate any more than average.
Excerpt: Look around the shelves of your favorite gaming store and you'll see racing games are just as prevalent as all the other sports genres combined. Everyone is making racers, as it doesn’t seem take a lot of thought to make one - all you have to do is combine everyone else’s ideas and use something different for the vehicles. The newest popular sub-genre in racing is modification.
Conclusion: The driving physics are very strange too. The first cars are very pointy and love to understeer, but are very forgiving on the limit, but as you look to more exotic cars they get less drivable. Now, I can see that you get a faster car, but the fact that you have to creep around corners or spend a lot of time sliding means that a lot of the benefit is negated.
Pros: Nice upgrade system., Money is well balanced, and the driver wagers are a good feature.
Cons: Suspect handling on the cars., The girls are a bit ropey., Only 4 players online.
Conclusion: This game is a poor mans version of NFSU2 and Midnight Club. Even close up shots of big breasted women in the cut scenes can't save this game. With such high standards to compete against, SRS gets chokes on the exhaust fumes of its more gameplay-oriented rivals.
