Street Hoops: King of the Court

Excerpt: After witnessing some of what this generation of PS2 graphics has produced, it's a disappointment to see how poor Street Hoops looks. The characters and environments are very bland and lack in both style and substance. I understand that the game is supposed to give off an urban feel, but even the darkest alleys in the darkest corners of the ghetto show more flair. Player models are angular and feature animations that would make the PSX cringe in fear.
Conclusion: Street Hoops misses the mark as a basketball title. While the basic concept of basketball is in the game - you must dribble and shoot the ball - the implementation of everything else just isn't great. The AI is weak, scoring is plentiful on both sides of the ball, and there is little strategy involved. Enjoying the game is made even more difficult by sloppy controls. If there is one strong area of the game, it's the 3-on-3 game.
Excerpt: In the past few years, it has gotten more difficult to improve sports games in any category other than graphics, simply because the sports game genre has hit a wall. With the power of current console platforms, there is no aspect of a football or basketball game that cannot be replicated, which makes it harder for developers to create truly standout titles.
Excerpt: Activision and Black Ops Entertainment have kicked out a street ball game to go toe to toe with the reigning champ, NBA Street, but does it have what it takes to take the street ball crown? You know, as much as I adore EA Big's NBA Street for its sheer brilliance, there are times when I wish the game was just a little deeper. Lo and behold it looked like my prayers were answered when I got a little play time with Street Hoops at Activision's booth at E3.
Conclusion: This game ain't half bad - it's certainly not half-baked. Worth a look for the sports-game fans who are after something new, I would still recommend it to most gamers. With tons of options and customisable features, no one should get bored of Street Hoops in a hurry.
Deviens...
