State of Emergency

Into Liquid Sky
3 February 2005
  • Excerpt: State of Emergency is the craziest and only riot game brought to you by Rockstar. State of Emergency (S.O.E. for short) is not, repeat is not anything like Grand Theft Auto 3 . Now that that is out of the way S.O.E. is a frantic, crazy beat-em-up game. Does the game live up to the hype?
  • Pros: Controls, Sound effects, Gameplay, Chaos mode, Frantic feeling
  • Cons: Music is limited, Could get repetitive for some, Some missions can be pain

State of Emergency

Playstation Illustrated
29 August 2004
  • Excerpt: State of Emergency had a lot of hype right off the block. It is an original game that garnered a lot of praise in its pre-release days. Did it rightfully deserve to gain that praise for its visuals as well as other elements? Sure. Visually, SoE is pretty clean looking. The levels are huge (although there are only four of them) and colorful. Buildings on each level are distinctive by their color schemes and signs.

BioShock 2: Sinclair Solutions Tester Pack

Game Vortex
21 August 2004
  • Excerpt: It's been at least a month or so since BioShock 2 released, and judging by the condition of the post-release servers, multiplayer is still attracting a decent number of dedicated players. Though nothing like jumping into a game of Halo 3 or Modern Warfare , I'm surprised I haven't had a hard time getting matches, which usually happens once other games come out and distract players with something new and shiny.

State of Emergency

Game Over Online
23 April 2002
  • Excerpt: The fighting genre has not seen many new releases since such titles as Double Dragon on NES, and the classic Streets of Rage series on Sega Genesis. Rockstar has released State of Emergency (SOE) in an effort to fill the void and in the process has created a game that stays true to the genre while utilizing the newest technology to raise the bar. The all out carnage of SOE helps to move the genre forward but does not do so without occasional stumbles.

PSX Extreme
14 March 2002
  • Excerpt: To be disappointed with a product is something I always expect from a game that receives an overhauled amount of press. Games such as Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 2, Grand Theft Auto 3, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Gran Turismo 3 and Devil May Cry are all the perfect examples, as they are recognized as the six best games of the year.

  • Excerpt: Riots! Mayhem! Oppressive government controlled by big business! No, it isn't the Enron story. It's State of Emergency, Rockstar's follow-up to Grand Theft Auto III.

Wield whacked-out weaponry with wild abandon

Web Wombat
19 October 2004
  • Conclusion: So…If you loved it on PS2, here's a chance to get to play it on a superior machine with sharper graphics and a better user interface. If you only liked it, I'd encourage you to give it a miss in the buying stakes, and go get GTA3: Vice City instead. It's a better game for your hard-earned dosh.
