  • Excerpt: The Star Ocean series has managed one iteration per console generation since the SNES era, and each time it has stood out as one of the best JRPGs in its class. The first Star Ocean, arriving late in the SNES' lifespan and thus never seeing a North American release, remains to this day as one of the most complex and engaging JRPGs ever made.

  • Excerpt: Da Introduction Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (SO3 hereafter) is the third game in tri-Ace's flagship series. tri-Ace is a relatively unknown developer, but with four games under their belt (Star Ocean: the Second Story, Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean: Blue Sphere, and now SO3), they are making quite a name for themselves.

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

  • Excerpt: There are times when I expect something incredibly new and innovative from a game genre that turns your expectations for the presentation style on its head. Others, I expect minor tweaks that may raise the bar on presentation, but do little else to try to rewrite the book on things, but at the very least, I tend to look for games that push the medium forward a little. Then there are time when I crave nothing more than an old-school gameplay experience.

Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time

Project COE
24 August 2004
  • Conclusion: There are a few problems here and there, but nothing incredibly substantial. The visuals do appear a bit blurry on occasion; the CGI cut-scenes seem heavily compressed and only just above average for the first half of the game, and the facial expressions aren’t entirely impressive despite the character models being nicely detailed. Luckily, things seem to clean up later in the game, and the fast-paced camera manages to keep up with the crazy action onscreen.

Star Ocean - Till The End Of Time

Gamecell
19 October 2007
  • Conclusion: To get to the end is always a challenge for an RPG, the emphasis always being on endurance and persistance, (and making sure you picked up every item, and fought every foe, so that you’re ready for the end boss) rather than just plain skill. The game spans two discs and is long, even for an RPG.
  • Pros: An amazing real-time combat system., Good plot., Fun characters., LOADS to keep you busy
  • Cons: Voice acting and dialogue timing spoils things., Story takes a while to kick in., Die-hards will miss rolling a die to attack…
