Into Liquid Sky
31 October 2003
  • Excerpt: SSX is probably THE BEST PS2 game at launch. While this extreme snowboard game from EA may not push the envelope with what the PS2 can do yet, it still does everything else right. With numerous tracks and options to choose from, any player can pick this game up and enjoy it.
  • Pros: Great sense of speed, Excellent arcade-type action, Fun for all
  • Cons: Long loading times

  • Excerpt: 2 players Memory Card Analog Control: Vibration function ESRB: Everyone Da Introduction: It's true what they say. If there's one game you must have for your PS2 this year, it's got to be SSX. The developers at EA Canada have delved into a genre already made popular by the likes of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Boarder Zone and Cool Boarders, but rather than going for the same old game styles, they've added enough twists and turns in the originality department to truly amaze...

Playstation Illustrated
4 July 2002
  • Excerpt: Wow , I said, as I ran down the first course. Wow , I said, as I ran through the human pinball machine course. Wow , I said, as I snowboarded on the glacier in Hawaii. To sum it up: wow . The graphics in this game are very, very nice. Every course has lush detail, from signs and trees, to simply interesting places to snowboard. You can tell at a quick glance just what sort of snow is ahead -- hardpack, soft powder, or whatever.

  • Conclusion: Simply put, if you own a PS2 and do not have a copy of this game, you might as well trade your PS2 for a standalone DVD player, because only non-gamers could possibly shun this game. Although snowboarding purists may dislike its unrealistic, arcade-like nature, SSX is by far the most entertaining snowboarding game available. Even if you hate snowboarding, SSX is the type of game any gamer can enjoy. A must-have snowboarding game from EA Sports?!? Who would have thunk it?

  • Excerpt: Think back to 1996. That was the year when snowboarding titles finally began to surface on the market.. and the very year when it we began seeing changes in the way people finally played "arctic sport titles". In the years prior to Cool Boarders, Sega, Namco and a handful of other companies had been releasing a series of Alpine racing titles in the arcades. While they were phenomenal hits in the arcades, they never made the full transition to the console medium.

PSX Extreme
27 October 2000
  • Excerpt: With the different waves of snowboarding games we have on the Playstation it was a bit of a controversial step for EA Sports to create another snowboarding game, especially because all of the other ones were just barely above average. Sony's own Cool Boarder series tried to do what 1080 Snowboarding did for Nintendo 64 back in '96. Cool Boarders 1 was a pretty good game with standard first generation graphics, the second one was similar but was missing something.
