Conclusion: The question that invariably comes up with sequels is: “I already own the original, is the new one really worth buying?”. And although are only two new tracks, everything else about SSX has been tweaked and refined. The much deeper strategy, improved characters, and introduction of uber tricks make this show worth the price of admission. My recommendation? Sell the original SSX to a kid down the street and put those proceeds towards your own copy of Tricky.
Excerpt: SSX Tricky originally started off as a DVD-upgrade of the successful original , but once EA started going, it seemed like nothing except a full blown sequel would do. Adding new tracks and racers and redesigning the remaining tracks, SSX Tricky is everything that SSX was but better. The gist behind SSX is a full-blown arcade-style snowboarding game where the player must finish tracks while pulling off extreme stunts to gain boost.
Pros: Totally redesigned courses are a blast to race, Huge amounts of tricks to pull, Improved loading time, Addictingly fun
Cons: Minor collision problems, Water isn't up to par with the rest of the tracks
Excerpt: It seems that EA Sports Big is 'big' on production quality. SSX Tricky not only has excellent graphics (some very exciting visuals) and great music - it also has some really cool 'DVD' content such as some cool 'making of' clips and interviews with some of the (all-star) voice talent. You'll find such voice talent as David Arquette, Macy Gray, Lucy Liu, Bif Naked, Jim Rose, Oliver Platt, Patricia Alesquez, Billy Zane, Nick Malaperiman and Ryan Wall.
Excerpt: I've been struggling for so long to figure out what I should give SSX Tricky. I mean, it's literally almost perfect. Every single problem that existed in the old game has been erased, and the additions to the game that have been made are incredible. Tricky has, as the title suggests, taken a shift from snowboard racing to a more trick-heavy blend of racing and stunts.
Excerpt: In a frenzy where Metal Gear Solid 2, Xbox and GameCube are launching subsequently, the general public begins to forget about other games such as Burnout, Capcom vs. SNK 2, Half-Life and SSX Tricky. A game like Metal Gear Solid 2 has completely cast a shadow over each and every other game that hovers anywhere around its release date. It's quite unfortunate if I do say so myself, because a AAA title such as SSX Tricky won't be getting the sales it really deserves.
Conclusion: Overall, a nice game to play, with so many characters available, all with seperate boards and outfits to unlock, and with different tricks and ubertricks, it is bound to last you at least a month or two. If you are an extreme sports fan, I have something to say to you: “Buy this now.”, and even if you’re not, it’s still at least worth a rent to try out, and then maybe worth buying if you like the handling of it.
