Excerpt: Who out there thought we needed a darker Sonic video game? After all there are the Shadow games. Sonic Unleashed is Sega’s attempt to make Sonic part hack and slash, and part normal action levels. Sonic has been considered family friendly for a long time. Sonic Unleashed takes a stab at destroying that image. My hope and prayer is that after reading this review you will avoid Sonic Unleashed like intelligent people avoid the GTA games.
Conclusion: the puzzle solving fighter could be two games all to themselves. Instead, they’re neatly packed together in one game with an ongoing story and its own curiosity: who exactly is Chip and why is he so important? You’ll have to buy the game and play it through to find out.
Excerpt: By Kevin "Berserker" Hall Player(s): 1 Memory: 159 KB While Super Sonic is chasing Eggman in what appears to be their final battle, Eggman manages to trap Sonic and the Chaos Emeralds. By firing a beam of reverse polarity Chaos Emerald energy at the planet, an evil being known as Dark Gaia is released from the planet's core through Eggman's scheme.
Conclusion: The daytime levels are exceptionally impressive, where we find Sonic a similarly altered beast. Joining the Homing Attack and Lightspeed Dash are Sonic Boost, used to run on water and walls when momentum lets you down; Quick Step, a lightning fast left or right lane shift without losing momentum; the wall jump; and of course the super fun and long overdue Sonic-Drift which makes me wish they’d do a Sonic-R2.
Conclusion: Sonic Unleashed had so much potential. The Sonic sections are amazing and fun, but the Were-Hog just brings the gameplay to a halt with its clunky and slow combat. Once again, the team have failed to deliver on another unwanted gimmick…hopefully next time, they’ll just listen to the fans and give us what we want…a classic Sonic game without gimmicks!
Excerpt: Sonic the Hedgehog has had a rough time of it lately. For the last ten years, Sega slowly changed their speedy little mascot into a shadow of its former self. It's not about exploring large green landscapes, collecting coins and saving little animals anymore - it's about biological monsters, drive-by shootings and lifting boxes with the power of your mind.
Summary: Everyone's favorite hedgehog will be breaking new ground yet maintaining his roots, in the upcoming title, Sonic Unleashed, taking players on an unforgettable high-speed journey around the globe in a way never before experienced in the world of Sonic.
Excerpt: Sonic Unleashed aims to address all the concerns of gamers and fans alike by taking the venerable series back to the drawing board. Thanks to the realisation by SEGA that, in recent years, Sonic the Hedgehog has only ever really worked in a 2D space, there's a heavy emphasis on dynamic 2D to 3D platforming action – the latter being inspired by the success of Sonic and the Secret Rings.
