SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs

The Gamers Temple
31 May 2005
  • Excerpt: The original SOCOM game was one of the first games to come with full support for Sony's Network Adaptor. SOCOM was a big hit thanks to some great multiplayer gameplay and did its part to sell quite a few of Network Adaptors. Such successes almost always beget sequels and a year later we SOCOM II: US Navy SEALs. These days PS2 owners fall into one of two groups, those with Network Adaptors and those without.

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs 2

Playstation Illustrated
22 May 2005
  • Excerpt: Without getting too long winded, last year Sony launched its online plan with a few key games. Although most were sports or racing games, one title managed to stand out among the rest. This game was, of course, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs -- an addictive squad-based shooter that managed to sell a lot (and I do mean a lot) of network adapters. SOCOM soon became Sony's flagship online title and the most popular online game for the fledgling online network.

SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs

TotalPlayStation.com
20 November 2003
  • Excerpt: It's doubtful that anyone, even people at SCEA or Zipper, could have guessed how well the original SOCOM. It's now the number one online console game (a fact that Sony is all too happy to make abundantly clear), tens of thousands of players continue to log in and play for hours at a time, and it pretty much single-handedly put PlayStation 2 online gaming on the map. It was killer online app that Sony needed, even though the online was only a portion of the product.
