  • Excerpt: My girlfriend is not an idiot – she’s just finishing off a PhD – nor is she new to bloodthirsty shooters – she’s a veteran of Syphon Filter and Resident Evil . But within 30 seconds of taking over the controller in SOCOM 3 , two of her four-man team were lying dead in the desert and she was running one way, firing the other, and screaming ‘Someone’s shooting! Someone’s shooting!’ I guess some games are just for the boys.

  • Excerpt: If you’ve ever played a SOCOM game before thn you know the basics of what’s in store for you in SOCOM 3. The basic gameplay has remained intact, but there are a number of new features that veterans of the series are sure to enjoy. If you’re new to the SOCOM world, your enjoyment of SOCOM 3 will probably depend on whether or not you take the game online.

SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy Seals

Playstation Illustrated
24 September 2006
  • Excerpt: Despite being the third in a series of long running games on a high end console, SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALS looks surprisingly bland. It seems that more time was spent on the cutscenes than was on the in-game content. Models are rife with jagged edges, and the level of detail on both people and environment is disgustingly sub par. The quality of the graphics has an impact on gameplay as well as on the aesthetic appeal.

SOCOM 3 - U.S. Navy Seals

Game Boyz

  • Excerpt: Developer - Zipper Interactive Publisher - Sony Features: 1 player Multiplayer 2 - 32 Players Online Compatible - Broadband Only USB Headset USB Keyboard Progressive scan Admittedly I do not play my PS2 very much as I spend most of my gaming time on my Xbox or with my handhelds. There are a couple of reasons for this, one being the online community. There's really no substitution for human interaction and human opponents.

  • Summary: SOCOM 3 for the PS2 takes the series forward with several new features and more robust production values. As you'd expect, squad based tactical combat remains the focus, but now players have the ability to use vehicles during their missions. While previous SOCOM titles have emphasized the online aspects, SOE has buffeted the single player this time around with a more cohesive focused approach.

SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs

Auracore MediaWorks
7 June 2006
  • Summary: PS2 online feels the wrath of over thirty Navy Seals.
  • Pros: Visually stunning for PS2 power, with long range of sight in every direction, never slowing down. Realistic sounds for all fire-arms. Gameplay online is like no other on most platforms, with 32 max players. Missions progress flawlessly, never really leaving you to wonder where to go next. Secondary objectives always add value.
  • Cons: The controls are like finger twister. Minor A.I. glitches, although funny sometimes, are a headache the majority of the time.
