Sly 2: Band of Thieves (PS2)

ccgr.org
4 July 2013
  • Excerpt: System: PS2 Players: 1 ESRB: E Publisher: Sony CEA Developer: Sucker Punch Studios It seems these days, with the growing attitude of "darker is better", the simple fun of games is slipping away. Don\'t get me wrong, I love first person shooters and M rated action games as much as anybody, but my gaming roots are in the Marios and Sonics of yore.

Sly 2 Band of Thieves

Game Boyz
10 September 2010
  • Excerpt: Paris, France. Midnight. An unseen figure sticks to the shadows along the streets. All is quiet in the city of lights save for the occasional meow of a stray cat. It is heard, but not seen - just like the lone figure skulking through the darkness. The mysterious figure darts from corner to corner, cover to cover. It evades capture and the watchful eye of roving guards armed with flashlights and with the intent to attack on sight.

Sly 2: Band of Thieves

Playstation Illustrated
22 December 2005
  • Excerpt: Sly 2: Band of Thieves builds upon the formula that made the original one of the best, and most underrated games of 2002. Drawing inspiration form heist movies like The Big Chill , The Italian Job and Oceans Eleven , Sly 2 requires players to use all three members in the Cooper gang to pull off heists that are bigger and much more involved than the original. The result is a game that not only manages to improve on the original, but surpass it.

  • Excerpt: If you read my review of the prequel then you know that I really liked the first Sly game. It made me appreciate platforming games for the first time ever. Since the release of the first game Grand Theft Auto has become a household name, and open level design is all the rage. So it's no surprise that Sucker Punch decided to use it in Sly 2.
  • Pros: + Still the best platforming experience out there
  • Cons: - Still a bit too easy

Sly 2: Band of Thieves

The Gamers Temple
12 October 2005
  • Excerpt: Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus is a great game that showed the gaming world how wonderful cel-shaded games could look. It was like controlling your very own cartoon. Now Sly is back in a new adventure and Sucker Punch, the game’s developer, has succeeded in topping their excellent first effort.

Game Freaks 365

  • Excerpt: Few games have had much of an impact on the gaming industry. GoldenEye, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Madden (any year), Halo, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Ratchet and Clank (1 & 2) have all had a profound affect on the industry’s direction, or at the very least, the direction of their respective genre. Sly Cooper might not fall into this mega-category, but it has played its own role in this generational cycle.

Sly 2: Band of Thieves – Review

GameCritics.com
30 September 2005
  • Excerpt: I've never pondered what life might be like if I were a dashing thief: stealing both rare art and hearts, scampering about the thieves' private highway (i.e., rooftops and sewers), and being master of both my trade and my domain. That is, I've never pondered those things until the debut of Sly 2: Band of Thieves . A sequel to Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus , Sly and his intrepid gang are back in business.

  • Excerpt: Among Sony's trio of famous platformers is Sly Cooper . Although perhaps a bit overshadowed by Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter , Sly Cooper proved to be a great gaming experience. The sequel, Sly 2: Band of Thieves , is set to be released very shortly, offering a variety of improvements over the original. In the previous game, Sly Cooper defeated the evil Clockwerk, a robotic owl.

  • Excerpt: As far as PS2 platform games are concerned, very few have come as close to gaming nirvana as the witty and engaging Sly Raccoon did last year. In time-honoured tradition, work began on a sequel almost as soon as the game hit the stores, and a year later – you could have set your watch by it – Sly 2: Band of Thieves is available for your consumption. This time around, Sly, Bentley and Murray are back in what is a very familiar game, based around an all-new storyline.
