  • Excerpt: Our man, Jake, checked out Sled Storm. Published in EA's Big line, this isn't really a sequel, but more of an upgrade to the original Sled Storm, released for PSone. The graphics are great, and there are some cool elements (racing for pink slips anyone?), but overall it needs some work. Click here for the scoop.
  • Pros: ups: Sled design; solid course design; plays at a good speed.
  • Cons: downs: Computer AI; touchy analog; limited choices at beginning.

Sled Storm

Into Liquid Sky

  • Excerpt: It's not really surprising when a company finds a formula that's successful that they want to repackage it as many times as they can in various formats to get the most return out of their investment. This seems to be the case with the Playstation 2 version of Sled Storm . At first glance at the tracks and menus, one might mistake the game for another Big EA title by the name of SSX Tricky . And, you wouldn't be too far from the truth.
  • Pros: Nice looking tracks, Great audio/video presentation, Lots of things to unlock
  • Cons: Too much like SSX, Poor collision detection, Wreck recovery takes too long

PSX Extreme

  • Excerpt: EA BIG has certainly made quite the name for themselves in the short time they've been around. The three games they've published so far -- SSX, NBA Street, SSX: Tricky -- have been pretty amazing to say the least, and have given the team in Canada an impressive track record. EA BIG's formula is also quite straightforward, and all of their titles thus far have shared a lot of similar gameplay mechanics.

  • Excerpt: As far as videogames are concerned, snowmobiling was once a dud genre represented by a handful of hopelessly clunky games and heatless slush mucking. Then along came the surprise motorized winter-wonderlander game, Sled Storm for the PSX back in 1999. It brought the niche Xtreme sport of "Snocross" to the virtual masses in a stunning display of rip-roaring razzle-dazzle and superlative play.

  • Excerpt: Big Air! Big Tricks! Big Speed! Big Terrain! Big Competition! Just plain BIG! That is what we have come to expect from Canadian developers EA Sports Big! Well, I am here to tell you that they have delivered once again in their latest effort, Sled Storm. But, everyone wants to know. Is Sled Storm nothing more than SSX: Tricky on sleds? At first glance, one might think just that. I can see why too.
