  • Excerpt: Sony's Sky Odyssey for the PS2 is an extensive flight simulator, similar to PilotWings on the Nintendo 64. Anyone who has played Pilot Wings will realise that this is good news. Many pilots have heard about the lost tower of Maximus, It’s secrets are legendary. Unfortunately, it is extremely dangerous and difficult to get to. All of the pilots that have previously attempted to find the tower have never returned.

  • Excerpt: So I got bored one weekend and dusted off this game I received as a gift a long time ago. I tried to play it as soon as I got it but I became frustrated and never played it again until now. You should be able to find this game in the bargain bin or used for less than $20, should you spend your money – read on. Sky Odyssey is a one player arcade style flight simulator, I guess.

Playstation Illustrated

  • Excerpt: I am in love with this game. If it were a sandwich, I'd eat it and order it again every day for the rest of my natural life. Okay, now that my bias is out of the way.... Graphics are probably the weakest element of Sky Odyssey , but don't think for a minute that you'll care. I noticed right away that the crisp quality we've seen so far with most PS2 titles is not a constant, and that sometimes slowdown is noticeable, but all the levels are huge and detailed, with little...

Sky Odyssey

The Armchair Empire

  • Conclusion: The whole look of the game has an unusually adventurous Indiana Jones flavor to it. Planes are fantastical sort or retro ranging from tiny biplanes like we’ve grown accustomed to and odd jets that might look good in a comic, but would have a tough time finding a pilot. Crispness and definition run rampant in Sky Odyssey with lots of detail on all of the planes, mountains, and all of the other scenery that’s present in the game.

  • Excerpt: For the love of God, don't say it looks like Pilotwings. Nintendo's amazingly kick butt flying game is great, but it's more fantasy than reality. Cross' Sky Odyssey on, the other hand, is planted semi-firmly in the real world. Sure, you'll be doing stuff like flying into tornados, but the controls, physics and planes are almost always what you'll find in real life. And maybe that's why makes Sky Odyssey such a thrill to play.

  • Excerpt: With their second game in hand, Activision is already off the right foot with their PS2 games. While there were many critics who found Orphen a less than average game, I found it to be an enjoyable experience with fun gameplay and nice graphics. Activision's second title which is developed by Cross, is Sky Odyssey a simulation game which is fully described by its name.

Sky Odyssey Review

GameSpot
21 November 2000
  • Excerpt: Much like Nintendo's seminal Pilotwings, Sky Odyssey blends aspects of flight simulation with an easy to pick up but difficult to master gameplay system. It also brings a light adventure story to the table, and the crux of the gameplay is focused on the completion of real-world tasks, as opposed to the predominantly acrobatic dealings of Pilotwings.
