SingStar Pop Vol 2

  • Conclusion: Reminded me of Karaoke in college, minus the pint glasses. I really enjoy the SingStar series, and it was nice to see an expansion to the catalogue.

SingStar Pop Volume 2

Project COE

  • Conclusion: Given the current PS2 market, Sony isn’t about to invest millions of dollars to drastically change the series on PS2. I mean, why bother? The PS3 version has a wonderful download store, a great online community, high-quality videos and so much more. Going back to this latest PS2 offering felt like I was time traveling to a long forgotten era. It’s amazing just how vastly superior the series is on PS3.

PSX Extreme

  • Excerpt: The rhythm genre is one of the fastest growing genres in videogaming today, largely thanks to games like Guitar Hero and Singstar. And while the aforementioned two made the appeal of rhythm games much more mainstream, they're far from being the pioneers of it all. That said, Singstar, along with Karaoke Revolution, are pioneers of karaoke games. The first Revolution game landed at the end of 2003, and Singstar followed shortly after in early 2004.

SingStar Pop

The Gamers Temple

  • Excerpt: SingStar Pop follows closely on the heels of SingStar Rocks and provides additional karaoke tracks without making any changes to the gameplay. Since both games are independent of each other I’ll assume that you fall into one of two camps: those new to SingStar and Pop players interested in expanding their song lineup. Those of you who played SingStar Pop and didn’t like it are excused from the room.

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: The SingStar series cannot be faulted on the premise - it works well and is a hell of a lot of fun, given the right situation. Pop Hits, however, falters in the choice of tracks on offer. Modern pop music is 99% toss, and this title backs up the theory. The game still works though, and in the right circumstances can still offer some fun times. And looking/sounding like an idiot is always fun.

  • Conclusion: For lovers of karaoke Singstar Pop is really about as good as it gets if you want to sing in the comfort of your own home. The 30 songs here are most varied and you'll probably find something you'll enjoy among them. The fact that they are all available right from the start is a double-edged sword. I liked not having to plod through the crap to get to what I wanted but without having a goal in sight playing the game felt kind of pointless.
