Silent Hill 4: The Room PS2 Review

Console Obsession

  • Excerpt: The Silent Hill series has always been one of the best for provoking terror and the shocking images that the games depict so well just keep on becoming more disturbing. The fourth game in the series is a slight departure to what we are normally used to, without some of the mainstays that made the series famous; Silent Hill 4 showcases some brand new and rather neat ideas. Always an asset of Silent Hill is the mind-bending plot and four is no exception.

  • Excerpt: The Silent Hill series’ literary take on survival horror divides opinions greatly. A small, cult-like following promotes the virtues of its subtle art-house styling, but most gamers are left cold by the cumbersome gameplay rather than the chills on offer. This instalment attempts to address these criticisms with overhauled game mechanics, whilst fresh locations and a more visceral direction will have even hardened fans jumping behind the sofa.

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: The Silent Hill series is the only entertainment that has ever truly scared me. Ever since I first took a trip to the other school in the original Silent Hill, I've been a sucker for Konami's franchise. Silent Hill 4: The Room stumbles in some regards, but overall it's a good game that had me plugging on despite the controls simply because I was genuinely interested in seeing the story resolve itself.

  • Conclusion: Have you, or anyone you know actually soiled themselves in fear in the past? Personally I haven't, and I don't know anyone who has. I guess it must happen, because I've heard the action referred to enough. But even if I accept that it happens to some people, I'm rather bemused when I try and figure out what evolutionary mechanic caused that particular feature to be built into the human makeup. Self defence?
  • Pros: Atmosphere., Excellent graphics., Good concept.
  • Cons: Too much aimless wandering around., The combat is boring.

Silent Hill 4: The Room -

Futuregamez.net

  • Summary: Silent Hill 4: The Room is a typical survival horror video game, it's got scares, it's got bloody violence, and it's got an average plot, but hey, we love survival horrors, and I love beautifully composed music, so this game is just fine in my books. I'd recommend renting to those unsure, just to avoid any disappointment, though.
