Summary: Others here have touted the games storyline as moving and beautiful, and maybe it is. I can only say that riding a horse for 10 minutes to get to a different version of a task I've just finished isn't my idea of fun. It's a visually pleasing game, but not much fun in the actual gameplay department. And, to me, that's just unforgivable. I didn't even finish the game. Anyone want it?
Summary: Why do I rate Shadow of the Colossus three stars? The game that GameInformer said "Breaks storytelling barriers none of us even knew existed.", the game that was called the "Adventure game of the year.". Because this game had such high hopes from me and yet it sunk like a stone in a pond. Story. Basically, the story is this: A man (the player)from another land comes into this cursed land inhabited only by colossi that hold the power to bring the dead to life.
Summary: Have had this game for a few years, and only now, during this Xmas, managed to play it and finish it. I found several negative things to comment on. What an annoying camera this game has. It goes wherever it wants to go, and you can somewhat control it, but the control is just too jumpy/jerky, not smooth. The camera gets in the way of what you want to do with the controls, precisely in quite a few tricky gameplay situations.
Summary: Here's a game that succeeds in creating an incredible atmosphere. No load times, no horrible distortion, just a sprawling expanse of wilderness and ruins that is truly spectacular to behold and traverse through on the back of your noble steed as you set out on your quest. Armed with your sword and bow, you are truly ready to take on any challenger... too bad there are no enemies in this game, or anything to do really...
Summary: All it really is is fighting these really huge beasts. The horse is really hard to navigate, there's nobody to talk to, no buildings to go into and the big beasts you have to fight are really hard to fight. But running around the landscape is kinda fun. Some of the scenery is really pretty but if I had played this before buying it-I would not have spent 20 bucks on it.
Summary: I started playing it with some very high hopes because I had heard some pretty good things about it. It was fun for the first ten minutes though. Besides for the massive lag, it was the most repetitive thing I had ever seen. They ask you to fight these Giant Collosus things for no apparent reason and when you beat it, they send you to kill another. And there aren't really any enemies to fight except for the giants. Overall, it was BORING!
Excerpt: "I was pretty disappointed with this game. I loved ICO, the previous game from the same studio. That reminded me of lateral thinking games such as old Spectrum classic 'head over heels', but with gorgeous graphics and really good atmosphere. This game looks nice, most of the time except when it slows down when the Colossi appear, but the rest of the game is so empty its like waiting for a delayed train at Nuneaton in the midwinter (no offence to ...
Excerpt: "I found this game for £20 and my friend had told me it was quite good. However, when I first played the game I found it very limited almost immediately. The fighting is poor as it is very easy to win once your on top of the monster. I found it too easy for my liking and there wasn't enough battle in it. It is nice to have a big map but only when you have things to do at the same time. You can be ending up running for 5 minutes straight, which nobody ...
Summary: MMmmm.... I have to agree with the previous review on some of the points - This isn't the amazing experience that we were all guaranteed, is it? I had already finished off 8 of the colossi in the first two days of playing so, firstly, it's a tad short. Ok, the colossi are pretty amazing (in the majority)and the graphics engine used for them is something special.
Summary: I couldn't wait for this game to come out, but now having bought it I am utterly gutted. It is quite frankly boring. The scenery is not as good as I was expecting, the storyline is flimsy to say the least and the gameplay is not particularly smooth or user friendly (annoying camera angles most of the time)!
