Shadow Hearts: From the New World
21 February 2006
Conclusion: Without a doubt, one of the best RPGs to hit the PS2. It's quirky, hilarious, loaded with enjoyable side quests and manages to tug the heartstrings just enough to round out the whole experience.
Excerpt: After Midway released Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant (Shadow Hearts II in Japan) in the US, they somehow dropped the ball and lost the chance to bring the third title to the states. What had happened? Jun Iwasaki's new company XSEED announced they would be releasing Shadow Hearts: From The New World in America. And though this series is not the most popular series in the world, I knew many fans who were on cloud nine because of this news.
Excerpt: There are certain things in life you come to expect. The sun will rise in the morning, the Vikings will always choke in the playoffs and one day, you’ll die. Another of life’s expectations is that every Shadow Hearts game will be just as odd as the last. Shadow Hearts: From the New World is the third game in the series and, while it manages to hold on to everything that made past games so entertaining, things never seem to come together as well as you would hope.
Excerpt: Even though the Shadow Hearts series has faired pretty well with critics, for some odd reason it hasn't been nearly as successful when it comes to sales. This even led Midway, the US Publisher of the first two games, to drop out of bringing the third installment, Shadow Hearts: From the New World , to U.S. shores.
