Excerpt: Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai was an amazing action movie that managed to entertain despite a running length of over three hours. The videogame, Seven Samurai 20XX is a grossly incompetent brain-dead action game that has less depth than some NES games. Not only does it fail as an adaptation of a movie, but it fails as anything resembling fun. For a game that touts being “based on a masterpiece” all over the box, surprisingly there isn’t much in common with the movie.
Excerpt: When you think of a fighting game, Ninja Gaiden has pretty much set the standards of what an arcade action fighter should be. So when new ninja games are introduced, it’s kind of unexpected for a game to stand up to the likes of Ninja Gaiden. Another game that perfects the use of free range attacks is the Dynasty Warrior’s saga. Sadly, Seven Samurai 20XX seems to fall under both of these franchises, somewhere in the mix.
Excerpt: I first played Seven Samurai 20XX at E3 2003, where Sammy had kind of hidden it in their booth. Yeah, it was getting a fairly major publicity push, with the seven main characters painted on the back wall, but Sammy's booth was pretty much all about Guilty Gear XX , and you only saw anything about Seven Samurai if you almost literally stumbled across it. The first thing you might want to know is that the game isn't as bad as people seem to be saying it is.
Excerpt: The action-film genre is credited by many to have been created by the 1954 theatrical release of Akira Kurosawa's 'Shichinin no Samurai' (translated to Seven Samurai), which told the story of a group of Samurai who agree to help defend a village against hoards of bandits in exchange for food. The film has been remade and referenced in countless other works, conferring upon it almost iconic status among fans and critics alike.
Summary: With Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 masterpiece as its inspiration, the developers of Seven Samurai 20XX had all the raw materials to create a stylish adventure that explored the personalities of Kambei and his ragtag group of fighters, and gave players an opportunity to wield the magnificent seven’s traditional weapons.
Summary: Seven Samurai 20XX bietet in allen Belangen deutlich zu wenig.
