Conclusion: EA Sports Rugby 2002 was a very good Rugby game. It's very accessible to beginners, deep enough for hardcore rugby fans, and fun. Adding club teams and tweaking that title would have lead to a very good rugby title. EA Sports Rugby 2004 added club teams and various competitions to give this title depth. Unfortunately, both gameplay and graphics are worse in Rugby 2004 when compared to Rugby 2002.
Excerpt: It's safe to say that EA Sports has spoiled us over the years when it comes to the overall look of any of its sports franchises. That said, I was completely let down with Rugby 2004 's appearance. After successful and renowned graphics with almost all of EA Sports' games, I failed to see any similarities with the graphic presentation of this sim. The animations weren't too bad, but the character models were uncharacteristically blocky.
Excerpt: Rucks and scrums, grubbers and mauls: though the lingo is strange to most American gamers, the sport of Rugby has all the violence, speed, and emotion that you could want. With the Rugby World Cup currently being played in Australia and being aired on Fox Sports World, many Americans may be getting their first taste of the sport. Will Rugby 2004 convert legions of Americans the way the FIFA series has? Read on to find out.
Summary: EA Sports Rugby 2004 has been timed nicely to coincide with the World Cup over the coming months. The gameplay is solid enough while the presentation and graphics should have been much better. Rugby fans will enjoy this title.
Excerpt: EA Sports are notorious for delivering yearly updates of American sports games, mainly because the foolish American consumers snap them up without batting an eyelid (check Madden 2004 's sales figures if you don't believe me). Occasionally, EA have been kind enough to bless us with English sports such as Cricket and Rugby.
