Excerpt: There's nothing like a bunch of men in mini-shorts smashing into each other at high velocity to get the heart rate pulsing. As big fans of EA's rugby franchise, EA's best rugby effort since relaunching the franchise in 2000, there was a silent air of anticipation in the IGN offices ahead of the arrival of Rugby 08. When the disk arrived, the silence was filled with the thumping slap of man-flesh on man-flesh... and then we started playing the game.
Excerpt: Rugby 08 is the newest installment of the rugby series from ea. This game involves the simulation of rugby union games with the majority of major teams in the world, world and club level. This game is an extremely addictive and fun game although it does suffer in its realism and graphics. The gameplay is great, you can have hours of fun scoring many different types of tries aswell as kicking goals from as far as possible.
A great PS2 game which is one for the casual gamer or serious gamer

Excerpt: Rugby 08 is a great game for the PS2 and as a PS2 presentation is quite impressive with its graphics. I have previously played rugby games on the PS2 and been fairly unimpressed with the titles out there and that includes EA's previous offerings but thankfully EA appeared to have listened to the gamers and their demands based on the previews I had read and so took a chance on picking this one up in my local game store.
Excerpt: Im not a huge rugby fan and mainly only bought this game to try and learn more about the rules of rugby. Which worked fine. I found the game very easy to play, easier once I discovered the rules better, and slowly found myself getting very into rugby and now classifying myself as a Leeds Rhinos fan, even though that is rugby league and not union, which i do prefer.
if you want a rugby game, buy this. if you want a game on a par with the fifa series, dont.

Excerpt: i am a fan af rugby as well as a player myself and i jumped at the chance to own a rubgy game on ps2. I got this game home and as a fan of sports games was unfortunately disapointed. I am particually a fan of the fifa football games and found that this game, created i believe by the same company, was not in the same league. The graphics of the rugby game were so much worse i couldnt believe my eyes, and for the same price, i felt rather ripped off.
Excerpt: I have always been a much bigger rugby fan than football fan. Because of this I have always been on the lookout for a really good rugby game for my PS2. I always got annoyed by the fact that there are so many seemingly good football games (not that I have played many of them) and yet not so many good rugby games. I was not so impressed with this game. I found the controls to be clumsey and hard to get used to.
Excerpt: This game is brilliant for the first month or so. The graphics looking amazing, the details on the players and teams is impressive, and the game play is easy to pick up but takes a while to master. However when you have completed the major tournaments you will have honed your skills and mastered the basic techniques you need to know. Much vaunted in this version is the new AI of the computer opponents and how they will stop you from scoring. Simply that is not true.
Excerpt: The immaculate timing of the release of this game has given EA an even bigger back pocket, this is because if you're a rugby fan and a gaming fan, you would have been begging for a game like this to come out during rugbys biggest tournament and, well, it did. On saying that, it doesn't seem like a quick rush job to get the game out on time, the gameplay is superb and the attention they have given to things such as set pieces is second to none.
Excerpt: Released to coincide with the Rugby World Cup to cash in on the buzz around the sport, Rugby 08 is very similar to previous EA Sports Rugby incarnations, but with a few important (and they are indeed important) changes. The gameplay is similar to 06, with off loads and quick passes to increase of the game. The problems with the 06 version have also been corrected, whereas before you could tackle players off the ball without punishment.
Excerpt: I'm not going to pretend to be the biggest Rugby fan on the planet by any means but I have always been partial to the odd video game version of it. My liking of Rugby games began with Jonah Lomu Rugby on the Playstation and continues here as I picked up Rugby 08 not long after it came out. There was no Rugby 07 game and no other Rugby games on the market since EA brought out Rugby 06. So with just one game to compare it to. Lets see how it shaped up.
