The Gamers Temple
28 September 2005
  • Excerpt: Rise of the Kasai, despite the decided lack of a Roman numeral after its name, is a sequel to The Mark of Kri. The game opens with the death of the original game’s hero, Rau. What follows is a time-hopping adventure in which you try to unravel the events leading up to Rau’s death in an attempt to change his fate.

Rise of the Kasai

Playstation Illustrated
4 September 2005
  • Excerpt: Rise of the Kasai is everything you would expect from a sequel. Many of the same elements that made the first game what it was turn up here, along with a few tweaks and changes to help give the game a sharp, new edge. The newer elements, namely the addition of an A.I.-driven partner and a few new kills, really don’t help Kasai to feel any different than the original.

  • Conclusion: Make no mistake, this is one of the most visually interesting games on the PS2, but it lacks a graphical punch and the gameplay is just too familiar to give the engaging storyline a chance to shine.

  • Excerpt: A cool mix of cartoonish charm, graphic novel vogue and gory samurai gameplay, Rise of Kasai is a follow up to the memorable Mark of Kri. In fact, Kasai is pretty much the exact same game as Kri--or a next-chapter version of it.

  • Excerpt: Rise of the Kasai is the sequel to The Mark of Kri, but, unlike a typical sequel, it doesn't simply pick up where the first game left off. The levels and story constantly jump back and forth as many as 20 years before and 10 years beyond the events that took place in The Mark of Kri. For the sake of those that didn't get a chance to play the first game, a few of the levels and cutaways in Rise of the Kasai offer a retelling of some of the events that happened in The Mark...
