Summary: I love the series and the games but unfortunately I am unable to play this one. I got it new in the plastic packaging with no scratches. But when I started playing it, everything was fine until I noticed that I could not access the menu screen which is very important since I would need to get to my tools and guns to progress through the game. I tried restarting it, cleaning it (even though it was already clean), and inserting it in a different play station console.
Excerpt: "...heading for this review as Resident Evil - Outbreak is not listed, aw well. As a mighty fan of Resi games I eagerly went down to my local Blockbuster to rent Outbreak as the only one in the series I had yet to play. To understand my love all of things Resi, I bought a Game Cube simply because no further Resi games were to be released on P2 as they had signed a 5 game deal with Gamcube. This new game was originally designed for online multi player ...
Pros: The Good name of previous Games
Cons: confusing & busy, none of the atmosphere of originals

Summary: My husband and I were really looking forward to playing this game and so rented it from the local video store. We were blown away by how awful this game is. We didn't even feel it was worth it to finish it and so returned it before seeing the end. The controls are some of the worst I've seen. I had an easier time with the original Mario Bros. The voice-overs were terrible, the storyline is predictable and almost identical to every other survival horror game.
Summary: I used to be a big fan of Resi 1 on the playstation. In fact I've still got it, refusing to part-exchange it. However now the series is tired. The developers have refused to move with the times and are just content to take your money, with the same old re-hashed game. The character moves like Frankenstein, the puzzels are infantile and totally illogical with loads of needless backtracking, the same type of bosses and the same old way to defeat them.
Summary: It has to be said that this game looks good, but that's as far as the good news goes. The control mechanism is frustrating and outdated - for heavens sake there are two analogue sticks on the joypad that go unused. The game play is slow and frustrating. You'll spend endless hours repeating whole sections because you ran out of amo. To say nothing of revisiting areas just because you have to go back and forth, back and forth in order to complete a level.
Summary: This game is poor. Old die-hard Res Evil fans will like it but if like me you are new to Res Evil then don't buy it. The movement method is unacceptable for today's gaming - circle left, circle right etc. Why so many pauses to load the graphics? Why is it that climbing stairs requires a separate movement command? Poor.
Summary: Very disapointed. Old fashioned and poorly though out. I wanted tomb raider style action and ended up with a restrictive game that has a good plot but badly executed layout/manouverability and it's just plain boring. I expected a bit more from something designed for the PS2. Its a poor way to bring an old style game onto a new and vastly improved platform.. Being quite honest I've seen more action in a game of chess - anyone want to buy my copy..?
Summary: Decided to rent this game first after reading all the usual hype. Had played RE-3 on the PS1, and was not impressed with the game at all. Awful control system, very slow to play, too many puzzles and not enough action. Will the PS2 be able to do justice to this game? Well No. Its the same old thing but with better looking graphics. Everything else is the same. The game looks very dated, and really its time for this game to change.
